Lumpy (1802), Carrollton, Texas, USA Aug 21, 2004 Bottle. Pours light yellow. Nose is strong and complex with the usual witbier smells. Taste is very mild and forgiving. Not bad. Milder then Hoegaarden. I am not a big fan of witbiers, but I would probably have this again. Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 5, 2004 Pours a little more yellow than most whites with thick pretty head...smells of citrus and corriander...malty and spicy...very complex...spicy bitter finish...Hoegaarden is a little milder... Sham (1846), Seattle, Washington, USA Jul 28, 2004 Pellucid, light gold with a creamy white head, and small lacing. Sour citrus aromas. Some orange, some lemon. Lot’s of wheat malts. Some spice. Flavors contain more bittering hops and orange esters. Hint of lemons and spice. Wheat backs this all up nicely. Light bodied, slightly puckering palate, and a bitter fruit finish. Aggie80 (708), Michigan, USA Jul 27, 2004 A good wheat with the esters and background one expects, with a lighter flavor than one would normally find in a wheat. Good appearance with some head and light lacing. I’d buy this one! SledgeJr (2957), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Jul 8, 2004 In the bottle. I really like Celis White. I first had this in Austin a few years ago and at the time it was the first Witbier that I had ever had. This seemed to be sold everywhere in the Austin area, so I was in heaven when visiting there. The look is so very true to style as this may be the whitest of the wits in appearance. It’s a very pale gold color. The citrus flavorings are outstandingly tart. Yet this ale is amazingly drinkable. Not quite as tasty to me now that I have had John’s Generations, but I do like it better than the overtly tart Hoegaarden. Gusler (2655), Tucson, Arizona, USA Jul 4, 2004 The beer after dislodging it self from the 12 ounce brown bottle sets in the glass a crystal clear gold color, the head smallish and bright white, the texture semi-creamy with the lace a thin velum like sheet. Nose is citrus crisp, sweetly malt with a trace of wheat, start is quite sweet, nice grain profile, and the top is light in its feels to the palate. Finish is prickly in its acidity, the hops apropos to the style. I suppose it is a good representative to the original, but it’s hard to beat a brewing icon like Peter Celis, well at least in my humble opinion. DrGonzo (625), Somerville, Massachusetts, USA Jun 29, 2004 Light yellow/ whitish color, little too clear for the style, small white head. Plenty of orange in the aroma, spice, coriander, decent. Medium body, somehwat heavy on the carbonation, spicy, acidic, lemon, oily, tasty malts, pleasant lingering wheat finish. A ery drinkable and tasty white. heykevin (1269), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Jun 10, 2004 Pale straw colored. Pungent orange peel aroma, some acid and plenty of coriander. Some phenols. Surprisingly full-bodied. Quite smooth malt character. Dryish long finish. This is very good.
