3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Re-Rate 10/17/02: The beer pours a very deep garnet, almost brown, the head prodigious, beige, the lace nice thin sheets to coat the glass. Nose is malt, caramel. toasted grains, light coffeeish tone also noted. Front is malt, slightly sweet, the top reedy, the finish a tad dry, waterish, modestly hopped, fairly acidic. As with James Squire Porter’, a bit ’Thin-wasted’, drinkable, but not my idea of a ’Porter’.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Deep ruby color with a smallish tan head and a smell that hints at roasted grains. Initially a sweet malt profile with roast coffee tones and a little bitterness in the finish. Not a very complex beer. I expected more of everything from this porter. For what it is it is an okay beer, but not the best porter.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
This is a very good porter, in my opinion. Nose of roasted coffee beans. Taste of chocolate and coffee. Rich and roasty. Maybe a little thin, but not bad.

2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pretty basic porter - some weak coffee flavours dancing jerkily with hop bitters. Interesting that MBC made the Beer of the Month deal; regardless of the off seasonality.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Cola colored; Head was thin and unimpressive; Nose of fresh roasted coffee beans. Very nice full roasted flavors shining through. Teh nose follows right through to the mouth- I can’t believe that I like this so much better then everyone else- although, it is f-ing ridiculous that the Beer/Month Club would send a porter in JUNE!!!

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
Three bottles of this came in my Beer of the Month Club shipment for June. This brew
pours a dark ruby brown. The large light brown rocky head is mostly lasting with fair
lacing. The nose is caramel and brown sugar, roasted coffee and chocolate, and some
medicine-like qualities and doughyness. The flavor is fairly balanced with a moderate level
of acidity. The finish is long and bittersweet. The medium creamy body is lighter than I
expected - it felt a little “thin” for a porter. The carbonation is very lively, and the finish
feels slightly astringent. When I grab a porter, I’m looking for something a little
“BIGGER” - not to put too fine a point on it. I’m not overly impressed with this brewer’s
offerings, slightly better than average.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
The taste doesn’t hit till the end and when it does it is nothing special, but a decent porter overall.
