MrManning (1458), London, Ontario, Canada Jun 7, 2006 Bottle from the brewery- Pours deep mahongony with a two finger beige froth, heavy lace, mild traces of sediment. Burnt caramel aroma with prunes, roasted nuts, and milk chocolate. Flavours are watered down burnt sugars, sweet malt, candied fruit, molasses, and tobacco. Smooth finish, especially considering the higher than average ABV. Sweet candied malt finish. ANother decent brew from MIBC. Tmoney99 (3740), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA Mar 1, 2006 Draft sampler at MBC. Poured a dark brown with an average off-white head that lasted. Good sweet grainy aroma. Medium body with a sticky texture. Good well balanced roast corn and molasses flavor with a long smooth finish. Had in Cincy at another pub on birthday, this is a better version of this brew. Silphium (2050), Lansing, Michigan, USA Feb 19, 2006 On tap at Michigan Brewing Co. Deep red-brown body, translucent, medium light tan head. Aroma of molasses, toast, brown sugar, and caramel. Toasty body with caramel, molasses, and brown sugar, paired with unusual corny earthy notes typically found in pale lagers, but lending a unique character to this beer. Cornier and not as sweet as the other example I tried at Harpers in East Lansing. Tasty.
