Strong roasty coffee aroma with some subtle chocolate and smokey notes and an underlying herbal character. Opaque dark brown with shy off-white head that recedes to ring. Salty, roasty flavour has an herbal character to it. Somewhat chalky, a bit thin but viscous with very strong, disagreeable, prickling carbonation. Bottle (Grand Duc - Feb. 2005).

Originally rated August 2005 when Le Chaudron was brewing this one. Beautiful tanned creamy head with good retention. Very dark red colour, almost black. Nice foamy-cream lacing. At first, the nose is grainy with roasted malt. Then, the coffee comes out with notes of chocolat and molasse. The mouthfeel is quite watery. Taste is very light, with slight bitterness in the aftertaste. Some roasted malt as well. Very well executed brew, as they wanted a mild porter. Recommended for porter starters.

En fût à l’Oktorberfest des Québécois. Couleur noire. Arôme de malt grillé, café et un peu de bois. En bouche, café, herbes et malt. Bonne.

In short: A very fruity amber ale calling itself a porter. Drinkable.
How: Bottle 341ml. Age unknown. It’s a tick!!!
The look: Clear dark ruby topped by a beige ring of foam
In long: A simple beer where the flavour is dominated by dark fruits, some cherries, some berries, red liquorice, some barley candies, a little tartness, light black coffee notes, some milk chocolate. The body is unsatisfying, almost watery. To call this a porter is pushing it. It was fun to go back to what I considered a good beer 6 or 7 years ago. Many years later and with my much extended palette I thought the beer would suck but this is actually quite drinkable in a so-boring-it-cannot-be-bad type of way. I’m not sure what is happening with this brewery. One day I hear they’re going out of business, the next day they are not. Outlook is not very good. That’s why I use another mail software.

Biere rouge foncé avec un moyen collet non collant. Odeur de chocolat, café, crémeux, petite touche de vanille et de dattes. Gout sucré et sec, style un peux médicamenteux. cerises, dattes.

UPDATED: MAR 31, 2008 Chocolate cherry flavor, fairly heavy. Delicious. Rating is probably unreliable as this wasn’t my first of the night.

Pours a red tinged brown, clear with not much of an offwhite head, thinning away to nothing shortly. The nose is faint. Light dark malt, providing little sweetness. An almost tart fruitiness suggests prunes, cherries, raisins. A little caramel, a little acidic toastiness. The tongue, a little fuller than I expected, a bit slippery, perhaps soapy in texture, but not unpleasantly. Acdic fruitiness. A bit of caramel and dark malt character, particularly filled out with raisins, prunes, and perhaps some cherry (particularly where the acidity reminds me). Tartness goes into a bit of a roast in the dry finish. the cherries seem to come back. As it warms, this reminds me more and more of cherry coke.

french tickler (647) - Aylmer, Quebec, CANADA - MAY 6, 2007
Clear dark brown poor with a thin beige head. Aromas of semi-sweet chocolate, caramel, black cherries, blackberries and a hint of molasses. Very light bodied with nice effervescence. Preaty even all around... Bitter and sweet are not to powerfull... Flavors of dark fruits and lightly acid. Very easy to drink and obviously the best of the three.

Robe brune foncée très claire surmontée d’une mousse beige qui s’estompe. Arômes légers de malt. Saveurs très légères de caramel et de citron. Aqueuse.

Bottle courtesy of Viper666. Pours a clear deep ruby with an average size tan head. Aroma’s nice and chocolaty with some sweet malt, vanilla and it’s a little lactic. Flavour of roasted malt, light chocolate, spices and again, a little lactic. Medium bodied. This was better then I expected, a pretty good Porter.
