3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 jrallen34 (3463) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAR 30, 2011
Bottle poured into my De Struise glass... A nice pour of a dark orange with hints of copper, semi clear but doesn’t look dirty, just dark. A big light tan head that is very full, great retention and lacing, looks great... The aroma is very strong hops throughout but there is enough caramel malt on the front to break it up. Smells like a barleywine, I’m very intrigued... The hops attack to much on the palate, not balanced at all. A super hopped barleywine, lots of hops and alcohol on the finish. The more you drink the more alcohol comes out in this...The mouthfeel is light but very rough, too warm.
This is not very good. Way out of whack, gotta pass.

22oz. Bottle: Aroma of malt, hops, resin, light wood, and slight metal. Poured deep amber/copper/brown in color with a small, tan/light brown head that diminished but lasted throughout as a film on top of the beer, as well as around the edges. Cloudy. Lightly sparkling. Full of tiny and small particles throughout. Very good lacing. Flavor is medium sweet and medium to heavily bitter. Tastes of malt, hops, light pine, light fruit, light berry, light resin, light wood, and slight burnt caramel. Medium body. Slightly tingly, then dry texture. Average carbonation. Malt, hop, pine, resin, light fruit, light wood, and slight burnt caramel finish is dry. 12%ABV is completely hidden throughout.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 DYCSoccer17 (3012) - Woodland, California, USA - NOV 20, 2010
22 ounce bottle purchased at Bark’s Beer Cave in Plattsburgh, NY. Aroma has floral hop notes along with some caramel maltiness, metallic hints, and scant booziness. Aroma is so-so. Mildly hazy light-ish mahogany body with a decent off-white head present. Starts a bit astringent, before this becomes metallic...very metallic. Finishes with some herbal, hops...chinook? Light-bodied and pretty boozy.
4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 williamherbert (1121) - Syracuse, New York, USA - OCT 29, 2010
The aroma is sharp pine and spruce hop. Sharp rye malts, dark and roasted. Touch of cherry and sugary raisin. Complex scent.
The appearance is dark, hazy brick red. Decent slushy head. Thick sheet of lace. Murky and inviting.
The flavor is gritty, burnt rye and barley. Touch of chocolate and burnt coffee. Grape, raisin, cherry. Very bitter spruce and pine oil hop.
The palate is chewy and very thick. Alcohol burn on the swallow. It’s equal to (if not better than) the original. Double bitters of woody hops and burnt malts. Very good.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 TheJester (1460) - Peterborough, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 14, 2010
650 mL bottle. Dark, hazy orange-brown. The beige head fades quickly, but laces nicely. Smells the part, with strong brown sugar, alcohol, and hops. The flavour begins nicely, with hops, caramel, and something that is almost anise, before exploding into a boozy finish. This one needs to stay on the bench for a while.

Bottle, pours a deep ruby red and an offwhite head. Smell is sharp....strong citrus with a little vanilla, maybe some oak notes. Taste is very deep....some cherry highlighted with a very nice, strong hop backbone. A little too barleywine-ish....but still good.
3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Sammy (7035) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - AUG 21, 2010
UPDATED: DEC 19, 2010 It was quite hoppy, very enjoyable and dangerously drinkable. Copper body, a little hoppy aroma. A tad above average mouthfeel. Not very complex, but tasty stuff.
4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Boliv (1146) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 18, 2010
Bomber. Pours brilliant garnet red with a medium creamy orangey/tan head. Aromas of caramel, sour cherry, sweet sugary pine, cocoa, raspberry, and alcohol. Flavor is a hint of sugar and very bitter pine, caramel, and a piney/black peppery/boozy alcohol finish. Finishes with some earthy cocoa notes. Bitter, full-bodied, creamy, and very warming. The 12% isn’t hidden at all here, but it works; this is a big beer. A nice balance between bitter pine and sugar, with tons of warming alcohol. Very good.

Bought a bottle as I couldn’t go to the Beerfest and wanted something different to appease my beer appitite.... and this fit the bill. Copper color, head not too thick even though not completely chilled... hoppy but not too much so, and nice and kick-a** with the ABV.... I like it, and will have this one again.
