3/17/2010: Middle Ages Dragonslayer Imperial Stout... Aroma: Dull chocolate and roasted malts; minerals. Appearance: Deep brown color; reverse-cascading, two-finger brown head, lasting; scant lacing Flavor: Slightly astringent; cocoa powder; minerals; hefty burn considering the lack of depth and flavor; vague chocolate-orange quality. Palate: Medium-bodied, smooth. Overall: Good, not great and not really very unique or memorable.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 beerandIT (298) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - JAN 6, 2010
Very very dark on the pour with trace amounts of head. I smell coffee subtle chocolate, toffee in there as well. I can tell from the taste that this is more of an English style imperial stout. Nice but I expect a lot more than this from an American brewery.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 ruskiimperial (308) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - DEC 20, 2009
This is certainly more of a european style imperial stout. Though it may have attributes of an american stout such as the upfront coffee taste and the high abv, but the overall body and hop profile is definitely more akin to a samuel smith’s imperial stout than an old rasputin. The european hops are not quite as strong, which is good if you like a more balanced stout. Interesting beer, but doesn’t really stand out in the american microbrew scene with the market already glutted by all the other imperial stouts out there.

A Mes rate. Bottle at Borefts 10am day after hotel tasting. Fully black with a tan head. Plenty of thick luscious malt, good roasty notes, lashings of coffee and some late bitterness that lasts considerably. Straight down the line but good.

Pours a nice deep black color wit ha thin tan head. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, some nice hop undertones. Flavor is similar but a bit heavy on the bitter side with some lingering burnt coffee notes, but nothing that kills the beer. Good palate if just a touch bitter. Nice Impy.
