UPDATED: DEC 19, 2005 On tap, 9/17/2005 at Redbones. Can I just say, "What OldGrowth said."? Probably not. But that’s pretty much word for word how I see it. Mostly black with some very deep chestnut brown tinges on the sides. Seemingly opaque out of the keg, with a small, foamy beige head, poorly retained, little to no lacing. Aroma of fruity, green, fresh, bitter hops. Leafy and juicy, they are quite inviting. A bit of smoke, anise, dark fruits (prunes, raisins, blackberries, grapes) in the nose. Very fruity, all told, with some graham crackers, moderate roast and sweet toffee. Flavor starts out very bitter, bitter from black malt and from the fresh hops. Some floral notes, juicy (but very bitter) fruits and low on the citrus, thank god. Charred smoked salmon anyone? Maybe not salmon, but charred wood/cedar smoke in there for sure. Caramel and toffee sweetness, a bit of grittiness to the texture is pleasing, but the body is mostly pretty oily and viscous, with very low carbonation. Respectable enough stuff, not too much of any one thing, though I could do with a little less hops bitterness. Moderate acidity grows on the palate. Flavorful and a medium-full to full body, that is fairly substantial. Alcohol well-concealed. I wonder if they will filter the bottles that are coming out soon? Probably.

Poured into my bruery tulip. Nice, two finger head stays with the drink with very nice lacing. Aroma of smokey coffee and sweet fruits. Taste follows the nose, a little to toasty, I’m loving the fruits, nice change in an impy stout. Mouthfeel is solid. Pretty good, under the radar stout!!!

Bottle purchased at "Beers of the World" in Rochester New York. Pours a motoroil like colour, completely opaque, khaki head and waves of lacing. Smells really malty, caramelized malt, some chocolate. Tastes bitter and malty of course, most certainly dark chocolate, its got a cola like mouth feel to it. Interesting.

Tasted on 1/28/12 from a capped bomber bottle obtained in a trade. Pours a nearly black dark brown with an average, rocky, tan head that slowly recedes to rocky lace. The nose is darkly roasted coffee with some dark chocolate, and a pretty strange burnt plastic aroma. The flavor is pretty much the same, with a bit of a lightly smokey note. The body is full with average carbonation and a long coffee and burnt plastic finish with some bitterness.

Poured from a large bottle. Dark with thin head. A little more chocolate than roasted malt. Pretty nice.

650 mL bottle. Black with a nice, sticky, beige head. Smells British, not American, if that makes sense. Earthy hops, no booze, not huge. Taste is pretty much the same. I don’t mean to make this sound like a bad thing. It’s a solid stout, with lots of chocolate and a herbal touch from the hops. Alcohol is very well hidden.

Weee my team won tonight! Time for a celebratory drink! Pours a black color with a rich brown head. Huge blasts of chocolate and hops in the aroma. Taste is very chocolatey with a burnt coffee aftertaste. Some nutty flavors as well. This beer is from syracuse which is awesome. Go ’Cuse!

22 oz. bottle aged 1 year 3 weeks. Purchased @ Table and Vine, West Springfield, MA for $8.99. Typical poor into a snifter. Nose has roasted malt, dark fruit and slight booze. Flavor is similar but a has a pronounced lingering dark fruit. BIG raisin or a prune like dark fruit. (Maybe from the age) You can pick up the English hops when warm. The body is in the medium range. High drinkability, I finished the bomber with ease. I only picked up the ABV slightly after it reached room temp. Well worth a try!

Bomber from Half Time. Pours quite black with a 3 finger foamy/creamy tan head. Aroma is dark chocolate with some hoppy/veg notes. Full body. Flavor is chocolate, dark fruit, residue of burnt malt/ashy, and some mouth grabbing bitterness, buffered by what seems to be a touch of treacle. I’m also thinking this has floral, but the flavor is so strong and complex it’s hard to be sure. Anyway, if it’s an Impy Stout you want, with no frills and silliness, this is a very good choice.
