An epic barleywine, made in the tradition of British Farmhouse Brewing. Lavished with a velvety blend of six different malts this is a warming beer with a lush mouthfeel. The complexities your discriminating palate will detect are ever changing as this barleywine matures. When young, an assertive hop character predominates and with age the beauty of the big malt balance unfolds.

bottled. No date, why? Hazy reddish-brown. Yeasty, mild hops, nasty malts. Hidden alcohol... this is a barley wine, right? Ehh, good FAR from great.

Bottle shared by Usher. Pours a transparent amber with a slight ring of cream colored head. Aroma and taste of malts, caramel, with a nice booziness.

Pours amber with a white head. Aromas of sugar, caramel, and grassy hops. Strong malt backbone, but fairly well balanced. Taste of earthy, grassy, flowery hops and a lingering bitterness. Medium body. It isn’t the biggest barley wine, nor the best. Lacks in complexity.

UPDATED: NOV 2, 2014 Being from Syracuse its nice knowing that when all other Barley wines are out of season you can always get a druid fluid. The funky yeast puts the citrus hop toffee aroma off a bit. The color is a little light, and the palate a little thin. Not as bitter as many making this always ready to drink. I wouldn’t age this one for more than a year or two if I was going to at all.

Backlog rating on 12-25-2012 (Bottle) This beer has a small smooth ivory head with a long retention, amber transparent body, very fizzy, lively, fast rising carbonation, and spotty amounts of lacing. The aroma is caramel malt, hops, sweet, lightly fruity, and alcohol. The flavor is light hop bitterness, semi-sweet, malt, lightly fruity, alcohol, and has a dry finish. The mouthfeel is moderate carbonation and this beer is medium bodied. Overall, this beer has a slight warming sensation, but the flavor is rather lame for the style.

Poured from 22 oz. bottle after cellaring a little over a year and a half. Cloudy, dark coppery orange with a 2-finger khaki head and very good lacing. Aroma of pears, apples, oranges, mangos, apricots and toffee. Taste of toffee, tangerine, mint, apricot, raisins, apple cider, brown sugar and tart orange. Medium body and high/medium carbonization. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Cellared for nine years, this beer is showing a lot of the characteristics I love in aged Barley Wines. Lots of toffee, dried apricot, caramel candy, medium-dark toast, and decayed wood, as well as a bit of unexpected bitterness that doesn’t make sense for a nine-year-old Barley Wine. The aromas are as expected, though, with caramely malt, toffee, decayed wood, dried mushroom, and dried apricot and orange. The beer is medium-full in weight, possibly losing some body over the years, and carbonation is medium, but there’s a bit of dusty astringency in the finish. In the glass, it’s a clear, copper-brown color with half an inch of pale-tan head, receding to a thin ring. Overall, this is good, but not great, mostly because of the slightly harsh and misplaced bitterness and the weird mouthfeel in the finish. At this age, though, it’s hard to hold any unusual "defects" against a beer, so a little leniency seems fair.

Sampled at the JRHB bottleshare - would have sworn I had rated this before, but obviously hadn’t. Medium to deep brown. Aroma caramel. Flavor is caramel, toffee, hint of grapefruit accented hops, but this was really all about malt. Nice barley wine.

22 ounce bottle. Orange pour. Citrus. Then brown sugar comes out a bit and an overall sweetness. Really light malt build for barley wine. Dangerously drinkable at this abv.

Pours a murky light brown with small white head and some lace, not much aroma light malts at best. decent flavor malts rather hoppy with some liveliness, some alcohol not as big as some barleys but not bad

Bottle sampled at Kurt’s Blarneywine tasting on 3/16/13. Pours clear amber with a thin off-white head. Caramel malt nose with a bit of citrus. Malty flavor with caramelly sweetness and a light finish.
