Thanks to Tom Decapolis for this... Appears an amber color with a soapy white head that sticks around for a moment. Smell is of a butter bomb with caramel and biscuits. Heavy diacytel. Taste is of light butter, caramel, and vanilla. Mouthfeel is sweet and slightly bitter.

Bottle shared courtesy of TomDecapolis (thanks!). Poured a medium and clear orangish color with an averaged sized off white head. Aromas of caramel and toffee. Malty. Lighter tastes of caramel, toffee and a little earthy. Thinner body.

Small tan head that settles down quickly, minimal spotty laceing. Light chestnut in color, good, clarity. Nose is malty, wort like. Body is medium. Medium sweet malty flavors, caramel, earthy and lightly musty. Finish is fairly dry. Thanks BeerCellar2!

This brew has a very nice flavor, nice color too. I’d drink this all the time - a good every day "go to" beer. My favorite of the five Middle Ages brews that I’ve had so far.

2005 bottle, fresh in on its MA debut. Definitely amber-ruby as said in the description. Lightly bubbly, off-white head runs for the sides of the glass and stays there, with no lacing as it goes down. Filtered and clear. Smells of buttercream, caramel and toffee. Flavor begins with crystally malt sugariness, bits of dry, earthy flavor and some brown bread or dry crackers. Very filtered tasting right away, with a lack of substance, nothing to stick to the palate and a short finish. Light papery astringency as well. Hops are lightly bitter and seemingly English or just very low alpha American. Fruity yeast is quite apparent. Too much forced carbonation really breaks up the flavors. Still, being quite fresh, the fruitiness and hops are good enough. Still getting lots of buttercream and then some light acidity on the end. Gets somewhat watery the more it warms and breathes. A touch of sticky maltiness shows good potential. Just too filtered, but I bet these beers could be great if they werent. Boring, though not poorly brewed.

whaleman (2176) - North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA - JUL 29, 2005
UPDATED: JUL 30, 2005 Clear amber color with mild carbonation and a fairly thick off-white head. Dominent aroma is popcorn butter with some crystal malt in the background. Flavor is of diacetyl, an oxidized note, and warm, spicy caramel malt. Moderate bitterness. Fizzy and fairly sweet, malty palate. Far from terrible, but not something I would care to revisit.

Nice medium brown color. Mostly malty aroma. Light hops. Flavor is malty, good mouthfeel. A simple but nice, smooth drinking beer.

This ale really went down well with pork chops but it has a few bitter ends in what seems like a malty beer with a touch of citrus and a somewhat clovey flavor. I wasn’t overly impressed by this good ale but am excited to sample this brewery’s other wares. I purchased the bottle at Half Time in Poughkeepsie, NY.
