Flying Dog Road Dog is also a scottish/porter hybrid, but this oneís better. Extremely roasty and thinner than most porters, this lacks the sweetness of a scottish ale. All in all, itís like a roasty schwarzbier with notes of bakerís chocolate. OK.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark, chocolaty brown pour with creamy but smallish head. Nose is as Gusler says "buttery", chocolate, caramel; more sweet than robust, definitely. Flavor is a little more intense and sharp, but perhaps less complex; finish long and dry. Overall, an excellent porter and the best Iíve had from this brewery thus far.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a very deep brown, the head is creamy light chocolate, the lace in large sheets to cling to the glass. Nose is caramel, lightly toasted grains, buttery, and a íSniffableí beer. The front is malt sweet, the top light, the finish is quite dry, lightly acidic, a nice hop bite, and a decent porter. Ranks #573 on my current 1000 beer master list.

I liked this. i had the
Flying Dog Road Dog Ale which also claims to be a scottish ale and porter mix and i liked this a little better. the malts seem a little more roasted than sweet which is how i like it. pretty smooth beer worth trying

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Very dark with thin head and lace. Aroma is very familiar to me. Sweet malts, bakers chocolate, some fruitiness. Medium bodied, very smooth, soft malt with hints of chocolate, roasty bitterness, light carbonation and bit of fruitiness. Tastes like it smells:) Very easy drinker and quite the plesant session brew. Worth a shot!

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: NOV 23, 2005 This is an usual but pleasant ale. It is as advertised - starts off smooth and sweet like a scotch ale, but finishes with the roasted/chocoate bitterness of a porter. Different and tasty.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark brown, little lace. Nice floral hoppy aroma. Quite a big hop bite for this style, I thought this was a scotch ale. Could stand for a little more sweetness. Overall, nicely done.

Hugely roasted and nice and dry with a chocolatey malt backbone and good balance. Slight fruitiness but barely noticeable.
