ElJefe (506), Rochester, New York, USA Apr 23, 2007 Growler from the brewery. Pours a beautiful copper/amber color with a one-finger tan head. Aroma of cloves, some bubble gum, apples, and cherries, along with that classic love it or hate it Middle Ages yeast signature. Flavor of caramel, apples, along with notes of clove and banana. I catch a touch of cinnamon in the finish, but there aren’t kidding when they say the spices are subtle. Lots of estery notes in this one. Looks like I find this one more interesting than most. Grandpa (307), Verona, New York, USA Mar 21, 2006 Draught, at the brewery. I start with this one and work my way down to stronger, higher ABV samples. This one is dark, the only characteristic identifiable with a winter seasonal. Its mild, sweet and very lightly hopped. Not much left on the palate when the liquid leaves the mouth. Lubiere (3231), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Feb 13, 2006 Dark amber ale with a thin off white head. Sweet fruity aroma with notes of berries and wet dough. In mouth, sweet malt with caramel and light scotch notes, on tap Kelly Cole’s Improper in Syracuse, NY, on February 4, 2006 with the Cap! CapFlu (3273), Victoria, British Columbia, Canada Feb 7, 2006 (Draught) Sampled at Kelly Cole’s Improper in Syracuse, NY, on February 4, 2006. Lactic, caramel and hoppy nose. Thin, dissipated white head and a deep brown-amber body. Flavour is a tad scotch but not WHEATY? Way off. Eggie - Lactic - Bullshit! muzzlehatch (4425), Burlington, Vermont, USA Dec 31, 2005 Draught Imperial pint at The Blue Tusk in Syracuse, NY. Cloudy, near-opaque blood-orange with little head, especially for any kind of wheat beer...caramelized bananas and not a little diacetyl in the overwhelming nose...somewhat vinous with some decent fruity esters, but mostly lots of butterscotch and alas spoiled milk in the body, a bit of cinnamon and cherry for variety but this is a failure when all is said and done. Couldn’t drink even half the glass.
