4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle at the Funky 6. Pours a menacing black with a moderate, creamy brown head. Roasted, dark malt aroma with candy and faint hops. Quite sweet with more dark malts, along with licorice, raisins, caramel, Belgian sugar and some chocolate. Modest bitterness. Full bodied with average carbonation. Finishes rich and sweet with lingering cocoa maltiness and some boozy warmth. Excellent.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A: The pour is nearly flat, thick, and black as night. Essentially no head with a few scattered bubbles.
S: Tons of sweet milk chocolate, whiskey, vanilla, and just a hint of coffee. As it warms up, a touch of figs, raisins, and miscellaneous dark fruits.
T: The flavor of this beer is just so smooth and rich. The whiskey and vanilla come through strongly and give way to sweet chocolate, and a hint of coffee. The oak makes itself known at times, and there are some dark stone fruit flavors on the back end.
M: Really exceptional in terms of the feel. Nice and smooth, creamy, and full bodied.
D: An absolutely fantastic beer all around. I wish I had a bottle of this because I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my few samples of this.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: MAR 27, 2012 Had again end of 2011. A few quick notes, lots of rich cake like flavors, notes of fruit in back with some ashy malt in middle. Bright flavors, balanced and complex. Rating based off of most recent tasting.
Big thanks to Jeremy for the tasting on this one!
A-pours a viscous jet black liquid with a dark tan, bubbly head that lingers for a moment leaving no lace.
S-the nose is quite nice, notes of chocolate and lots of savory fudge, light touch of oak with a solid dark fruit presence in the back.
T-lots of milk chocolate and vanilla, good roasted presence with dry oak accompanied. ripened dark fruits add sweetness and vinous characteristics with a touch of belgian yeast and a light smoked peat moss behind.
M-very soft, smooth and silky on the palate with a full body that avoids being heavy yet not thin as many barrel aged beers can become.
D-huge flavors that blend perfectly together and brings such complexity. the barrel aging stands up just right leaving a full body with the soft belgian feel. awesome beer!

Sent to me by timmcd. Shared with the masses at RBWG.
A: Pours a nice dark black with a small tan head. No real retention or lace.
S: Aromas of deeply roasted malt, coffee, chocolate, coconut, and vanilla. Mild woody notes with an alcoholic kick.
T: Very much like the aroma. Wonderful bold flavors. Nice roast with a coconut macaroon like sweetness. Chocolate and coffee are there in a big way with some vanilla and barrel notes. Hints of raisin and a bit of booze round things out.
M: Medium in body, smooth and tasty.

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bomber; wow, thanks Frank for sending another bottle my way to try again; oily thin jet black pour with dark chocolate head fading quickly to the edges; viscous aromas of chocolate, coffee, dark fruits and oatmeal; sweet on first sip with heavy chocolate flavors and slight bitterness coming out in the finish; body was thinned out a little bit with age and texture is slightly syrupy; rich, milky chocolate and rich coffee; fading a bit, but still a rock star; also had the pleasure of drinking this one draft while up in Anchorage for GABBF in January 2010; an amazing beer
Original Rating 5/16/08 (Score - 4.5) - 22 oz. bottle; pours jet black with dark, chocolate colored head; killer nose is very roasty, lots of chocolate, coffee and touch of sweetness; drinks creamy and very muted for the strength; besides the big roasted malts, this has some creamy sweetness that makes it extremely well-rounded; wow, this is the real deal

UPDATED: DEC 18, 2011 Taste thanks to Jeremy!
Jet black, rich tan head. Incredibly complex nose of rich fudge and chalky cocoa, heavy roast elements, berries with texture reminiscent of fruity wine, oak, and light alcohol. Flavor is even more beautiful with dry, scorched oak, more berry, and cocoa and ash which then roll into a lightly peaty finish with earthy tones and warming alcohol. Stunning balance, unparalleled complexity, and a Belgian softness in the thick mouth that makes most barrel-aged bombs look sophomoric. Easily the best imperial stout I’ve ever had and what I’d hoped Berserker would be. Jules Winfield’s foot massage wisdom is appropriate here: “Ain’t the same fuckin’ ballpark. It ain’t the same league. It ain’t even the same fuckin’ sport.”

UPDATED: JUL 26, 2010 Pours a fairly viscous black with a thick, dark mocha head. Nose of pretty big roasted malt, fine coffee dust, and some charred, ashy oak. More light and creamy in the mouth than I expected, really bringing out the charred, ashy qualities. Some dark bitter chocolate and coffee, segueing into an endless finish with a constantly changing character. This was pretty fascinating and is just a wonderful imperial stout.

Sample thanks to skinnyguy! Dark black pour, cookie colored head and a rich chocolate aroma. Flavor began with chocolate, thick roasted malt, and finished creamy with a little pepper. Had this side by side with Berserker and preffered this beer.

Sample at RBWG 2010 - thanks! This is nice. Not sure if it was intended, but I’m getting plenty of peaty smoke on this. Yummy.
