Belgian-style Imperial Red IPA

P4 = fourth planet from The *Midnight* Sun

Named after the Roman god of war, MARS radiates red color and brilliant beauty yet enrages the taste buds with wrathful force. This Imperial IPA seizes its intense bitterness from an immense amount of hops. Belgian yeast retaliates, adding complexity and character.

LOGISTICS LOG: Designed to represent the Red Planet--a Red Imperial India Pale Ale--using wrathful American hops and Belgian yeast. primary fermentation and aging occurred in stainless steel. Controlled conditioning achieved during secondary fermentation in bottle and cask. no other data available at this time.

Bottle sample shared at a local BA tasting from notes. Pours a slightly hazy reddish caramel brown color with a medium sized off white head. The aroma and flavor have grapefruit citrus, some yeast, caramel and pale malts, decent bitterness especially considering this was more than a year old, I am happy to have had a chance to try this.

Past notes. Colour...medium amber with a frothy head. Nose...incredibly hoppy with lots of dusty, piney notes. Palate... suh-weet!!! And I mean, quite sweet, though, somehow, it’s not super cloying. The hops are quite pronounced, and yet there’s so much malt, there’s quite a nice balance. There’s a dryness on the mid palate, and on the finish as well. A truly delightful beer for the style!

22. Thanks j! Pours a crystal clear medium amber with a creamy tan head. Big toffee and sweet cream nose, very little hop presence left after four years. Creamy medium body with soft carb. Toasty caramel mid palate with sweet cream and iced tea. Big dry iced tea finish.

Bottle: Poured a orangish brown with a huge off white to beige head. Aroma is super hoppy and some dough. Taste is a gritty hops with some malts. How the hell can they last for this long, I expected some mellowing.

Pours a reddish color with an off-white head. Stale hops on the aroma with some grass and citrus notes. A bit of sweet toffee and bready malt, maybe some toast. Citrus hops, citrus peel, and maybe some grass and pine. Sweet toffee, bready malt, and a hint of caramel. Just sort of an old hoppy beer. Meh. Medium body and carbonation.

Bottle at the Funky 6. Pours hazy amber with a medium, off-white head. Hoppy aroma with grapefruit and resin, along with some caramel and bread malts. Nice and sweet with caramel malt character, followed by strong, citrus bitterness. Medium to full in body with average carbonation. Finishes bitter with more grapefruit and some pleasing alcohol warmth. Very good.

Bottle shared at local BA gathering. Poured clear reddish brown color with a large frothy off-white head that mostly lasted with excellent lacing. Moderate to heavy complex hop and yeast with a small alcohol aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and lively carbonation. Medium to heavy oily bitter flavor with a medium to heavy bittersweet finish of moderate to long duration. This is a standout beer.
