PLUTO Belgian-style Golden Strong Ale 8.7 % Alcohol By Volume 35 International Bittering Units (IBUs)

P9 = 9th (non-) planet from The *Midnight* Sun

Named after the ruler of the underworld, PLUTO was re-classified as a non-planet in AUG 2006. Here we celebrate our “Fallen Planet” by creating a Belgian-style Golden Strong Ale, aged in French oak Chardonnay barrels with Brettanomyces. Appropriately, the devil’s in the details.

LOGISTICS LOG: designed to represent the "Fallen Planet" with a Belgian beer style that includes beers traditionally named after the devil. primary fermentation and aging in stainless steel. phenomenal funk flavors realized with aging in oak barrels affected with Brettanomyces. bottle-conditioning achieved with secondary fermentation. devil-may-care

Bottle shared at Zwanze Day 2012 (Chicago, IL). Pours a wretched well hazed dulled golden pourz, firm haze, frothy white head. Aromas are gentle dough, firm funk and oak, bretty dryness and dust. Some bready malts, dough, and gentle fruit come in. Warmth shows some brighter fruit, citrus and grape, gentle apple. Initial is lighter end of medium bodied, aged with bretty funk and mellow fruit elements. Gentle spice, gentle bready and grainy malts. Touches of grape, gentle apple, oak and gentle melon. Middle is gentle dough, fruit, and sweetness. Some straw as barrel tannins and funky brett work into the backend. Fruit, grape, and melon. Touches of gentle kisses of citrus, some dough, and oaky tannins. Finish is gentle, dry with lingering fruit that was more vibrant in the middle. Pretty solid offering, incorpating oak and firm brett without losing it’s base flavors too much. Nice.

Bottle provided by savnac. Thanks Ira! Pours an apricot color with a fingers worth of white head. Very good head retention. Bright fruity nose, white grape skins, Pineapple, Belgian yeast...very saison-like. Very delicate flavors starts with a saison-like base and is backed by light stone fruit, white wine, some light malt. Light mouthfeel, dry, moderately carbonated, and a shPeter finish. One of the best of the planet series, real easy drinker for the percentage. Really nice, bright nose is a standout.

Bottle. Colour... golden-yellow with a fairly frothy head. Nose... kinda funky with lemon spritz. Palate... a bit sweeter than I expected followed by moderate funk, a general citrus tartness and more lemon with hints of oak and wine. Not my favourite of the "Deadly beers" but a decent effort.

Pours a pale yellow color with a white head. A hint of lemon and citrus peel. Maybe some melon and other tart fruits. A nice fruity flavor and some excellent tartness. There’s a little grassy funkiness to it. Good melon and apple and lemon notes. Really nice. Light bodied with high carbonation.

(22oz bomber thanks to AmEricanbrew) clear light gold with fine white bubbles. Nose of brett, wood, chardonnay, Belgian yeast, citrusy, really complex nose. Smells delicious. Taste of white pepper, orange rind, chardonnay, and a light Belgian yeast component. Excellent Belgian style beer!

Dark straw colored brew with a small ivory head. Lots of yeast, iced tea, and spice in the nose along with a bit of funk. Flavor shows the Bret a bit more accompanied by some fruit and earthy qualities. Medium mouthfeel...glad I had a chance to try.

22oz bottle - thanks to AmEricanbrew. Light orange color - barnyard and earthy aromas. Flavors of brett, with some sour fruitiness.

Bottle marked 8.29.2008 thanks to AmEricanbrew. Pours with a particle filled yellow body with a white head. Aroma is bitter, chardonnay like, herbal. Flavor has notes of light wine, light brett, champagne and earthy. I also got a distinct vegital character that I didn’t really care for. Lively bubbles.
