BEER LINE: "The Way Down"
2009 Crew Brew Series: Heading into 2009, the NINE of us will each designnamebrew a beer to be released in 2009. We are all very excited about this series. It’s a great way to “freeze” this time and space – right before we jump into the new place and add new folks. These NINE beers will be fabulously eclectic and delicious.

Creator of This Beer: Kourtney, aka K-Dogg...aka K-Tron, is our hotdog boardercyclistbrewer. K-Dogg works and plays harder than most...and he’s got the scars to prove it. His beer was inspired by the Belgian beers he enjoys after an incredible day on one of his boards or bikes or in the brewhouse. Created as a tribute to the monk-ethic that produces beautiful beer through spiritual dedication to centuries-old standards, DESCENT celebrates "the way down".

22 oz bottle. Hazy walnut brown with a coating balsa head leaving speckles. Nose is raisin, yeast and toffee with hints of candied lemon peel. Sticky medium body with lively carb. Taste is caramel, banana, nutmeg and ginger. Finishes with light earthy bitter citrus. A deft touch elevates this Belgian strong.

Sampled from 22-oz bomber during Darkness Day 2009 in Brooklyn Center, MN. Pours a semi-hazy copper amber colored brew with a long lasting off-white head that leaves behind some sticky lacing. Aroma of toffee and caramel malts, Belgian yeast, a hint of candi sugar and some cotton candy. Taste is medium to full bodied, with flavors of caramel malt, candi sugar, some banana esters, yeast and a touch of raisin. Finish has a little alcohol presence with a candi sugar and caramel aftertaste.

bottle thanks to brewboone. Pours a dark brown with a lovely tan head. Nose is of raisins. Taste is of strong raisin and meat. A little burnt. Mouthfeel is creamy. This reminded me some of their gruit brew.

Poured a clear deep chestnut color with a medium sized off-white head. The aroma malty sweet and fruity with a light smoke in it. Sweet fruit flavor with light fig on the finish. Some yeasty notes. Tasty. Medium bodied.

Bottle… Burnt orange ale with a small, creamy, off-white head. Fantastic retention. The sweet aroma furnishes some spiciness, but golden raisins and brown sugar are the standouts. Full-bodied and velvety with tickling carbonation. The bittersweet flavor is much like the nose – semi-sweet dates, raisins, tropical blossom honey and mild dried plum. Finishes lengthy and sweet with dark fruits galore. Bottle courtesy of Beerlando!

Enjoyed at a recent BA/RB tasting... Bottle poured dark orange/amber with a white head. Spiced, clove, plum, dark fruits. A smooth yeast flavor with lots of sweetness. Smooth, spiced finish.

Appearance: Pours out a clear, garnet-hued body with a head comprised of a lasting layer of off-white foam. Smell: Sweetish, fruity aroma studded with notes of oven-toasted bread, piquant spices, cooked sugars, fresh-ground cinnamon, dried fruits, and some nose-tingling alcohol. Taste: Descent begins malty and fairly sweet on the tongue with tastes of golden syrup-coated bread crusts and brown sugar. Fruity flavors of golden raisins and red currants. The generously added Grains of Paradise along with the Belgian yeast yield some spicy peppery tones, but I’m also picked up some licorice powder and a rather strong, robust cinnamon character. Very mild hop bitterness. Plenty of long-lasting residual sweetness in this one, even all the way to the warming, earthy, spicy finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-plus body. Medium-high carbonation. Drinkability: Worth a try. The enduring sweetness hampers the long-term drinkability, but the carbonation thankfully keeps things moving and prevents it from becoming too cloying.
