Bottle share at Bruce’s pad. Thanks to our host. Opaque dark brown beer, small tan head. Palate is airy with very mild carbonation. Dense and slightly savoury dark malts. Little malt cream. Raisin and prune fruits. Savoury finish, not too much smoke. Very rich and tasty.

Bottle shared by Jeff, thanks! Pours black with a dark chocolate brown head that dissipates quickly to the edges. Aroma has lots of bitter dark chocolate supported by graham cracker, roasted malts and a bit of smoke. Flavor combines bitter chocolate and sweet dark grains with a supporting smokiness and roasted malts.

Bottle shared at tasting. Pours black with minimal head. Some bourbon and sweet notes in the aroma. Similar taste with some graham cracker. I like it.

Bottle shared by me at Steazy’s - thanks me! Thick black pour. No head. Big bourbon nose, just a hint of bacon. Huge malty taste with notes of bourbon and smoke. Excellent. Sweet.

Bottle shared by Jeff - thanks! Motor oil pour with a tan head. Molasses, very rich. Smoke is mild. Plenty of graham cracker. This is excellent!

Original batch reviewed in 2012. Smokiness still present but the most notable flavor that has held or come through is the wine barrel character. Adds a nice vineous note to a pretty roasty stout. Interesting and very solid beer.

Bottle. Opaque black liquid with small tan head. Aroma of dried fruit, light smoke, light umami, leather, tomato puree, light coffee and sausage. Taste is medium sweet and light bitter with notes of dried fruit, licorice, sausage and leather. Full bodied with low to medium carbonation. Pretty good but savory.

Big thanks to Awet for sharing this one with all of us at Ffej of November. Pours jet black with a half finger tall tan head, quickly dissipating to a light ring, leaving small streaks of lace on the sides of the glass.

Smells of smokey dark roasted malt, warm bourbon, chocolate nibs, molasses, dark fruit, oak and some caramel sweetness. Taste starts off much like the nose does with a big dose of smokey malt quickly being joined by the mild sweetness, woody oak and light bourbon heat. Big, smokey feel goes down way to smooth for as big as it actually is.

Overall one of the highlights of the night on the stout side. It has a ton of flavors that I really enjoy and I had no trouble finishing my pour and going back for more. Definitely worth seeking out, excellent beer.

Bottle shared in London - many thanks to Bruce. Pours oily black with a slight, frothy tan head. Lots of well roasted dark malts in the nose, dark fruits. Medium sweet flavor with very subtle smoked malts, burnt earth, touches of peat, sugary dark fruits. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Modest warmth on the finish, more dark cocoa, dark fruits, some leather, a bit of earthy bitterness. Not bad.
