UPDATED: DEC 24, 2014 Bottle from 2014:   Pours like motor oil, thick and black, viscous pour, small brown foamy head, little lacing.   Sweet roasted malts, apple skin, a touch of bourbon, and some very mild smoked malts on the nose.   Smooth on the tongue, similar to the nose but also picking up some soy sauce.   Hides the 12.6% very well.   Fairly full bodied, silky smooth.   Finishes with apple skin, sweet roasted malts, soy sauce, soft bourbon, and a touch of campfire.   A very easy to drink 13% Imperial Stout.   Yum!

In short: A thick viscous, peaty and lightly smoked stout. Just another decent sipper in the overcrowded style
How: Bottle 22oz. Consumed when a little over one year of age, Bottle sent to me by drunkenpolack, thanks a lot Dave
The look: Black body topped by a small tan head
In long: Nose is moderately smoky, burnt black cake, burnt liquorice, higher alcohol, tar. Taste has bittersweet black chocolate, a whole lot of warm alcohol, quite a lot of peat, unexpected sticky bitterness¸ wood sap, tar, soy sauce,, mild smoky notes¸ some minty hops,. Body is thick and viscous. The alcohol is surprisingly not well hidden at all, it is burning the mouth. As expected, I went through my bottle very slowly, probably took me a full hour, this is a sipper, I can’t find anything wrong with the beer, but also I can’t find anything here that justifies the current 4+ average. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, most big strong limited release imperial stouts are overrated, and am I annoying you guys by always repeating the same thing? And now am I? And now? What about now? Am I annoying you now? And now? Now? Now? Now? Now? Now? What about now? Maybe now? And now? Now? Now? Now? Now? Now? Now? Now? Now? Now? Now? Now? Now? Now? Now? Now? Now?

22oz bottle from Superstar Beverage in Huntington. Pours a very thick, viscous black with some creamy, off white head. Nose has a ton of black licorice and molasses, hugely sweet, malt too, some mild smoke, some umami notes, plenty of booze too. Flavor follows right along, very thick, burnt caramel, molasses, liquid licorice, some anise, some smoke, pencil lead. Full bodied, thick, boozy finish.

Thanks to AmericanBrew for sharing this bottle. The beer pours a deep black color with a tan head. The aroma is full of dark fruit and anise, with a lot of chocolate and roasted malt mixed in. The aroma is fairly sweet and is very enjoyable. The flavor is also very complex and interesting. I get a ton of roasted and smoked malt, as well as some sweet milk chocolate notes. The smoke is complimented by a little bit of dark fruit. The alcohol is very well hidden and the beer is very easy to drink. Medium to thick mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Very glad I got to try this one.

pours unclear very dark brown, if not oily black, with a reviving crema cap, nicely lacing. fragrant smoky red fruitiness, red grapes - lots of red sine character, complex smoke and dense maltiness, olives, smooth bourbon, spices. light to low carbonation, medium to full body - oily; sweetish and vinous-spicy finish. exceptional..

(22oz bomber thanks to AmEricanbrew, rating #3500 for me) jet black pout with a thick very dark tan head. Nose of oak, anise, caramel, rich chocolate, smoke, complex and awesome. Taste of light smoke, rich chocolate, toasty, brown sugar, oily body and just an amazing linger. Cola-like carbonation, perfect palate finish. Absolutely awesome imperial stout, and hides the 12%+ ABV as if it is 7-8% at best.
