22 oz. bottle shared by AmEricanbrew @ RBWG ’11. Pours very dark brown to black with a dense tan head. The aroma has roasted malts, caramel, dark berries, chocolate, mild meaty smoke, fudge and vanilla. The flavors are much of the same. The smoke character is well integrated. Decadent caramel, berries, chocolate to this one. Full bodied and chewy. I had this a second time at a local tasting with no change in experience.

UPDATED: JUN 25, 2015 Bottle shared by a kind soul at RBWG. Pours a totally black color with a medium brown head. A sweet dark fruit, molasses and smoky nose. The flavor is a very nice Impy; massive smoke, loads of dark fruit, char, molasses, molasses, licorice, I was into this brew. Some hops later in the finish. Very nice, not overly smoked, but really good. Re-rate: I was lucky enough to drink this again thanks to Mike. The massive dark fruit and oily nature of this beer is almost on par with Expy. The smoke is subtle but contributes a ton. World class.

Thank you for sharing Benzai! 650 ml. bottle shared @ RBBWG V. Black, small very dark mocha head. Nose is thick smoked varnish with umami notes coated in thick licorice, molasses, not really getting the bourbon in the nose. Taste is sweet thick licorice, bourbon, vanilla, thick molasses, syrupy, warming sugar, candy, viscous, light smoke in the finish & dash of sweet bourbon, low warming red wine. Lower carb. & thick molasses, touch vinous body. Delicious thick affair.

Clear dark brown to black beer, small creamy beige head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: wow, yes, spot on! Very roasted, sweet notes, caramel, fudge, vanilla, chocolate. Lovely! MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: sweet start, sugary, vanilla, lots of crème brulée, really lovely stuff. Aftertaste: little bitter, sugary, alcohol, lots of caramel, bit spicy, some ginger bread, sweet, alcohol, very impressive beer!

Bottle thanks to hophead84. Pours with a black body with a medium sized, lasting tan head. Aroma is very strong, rich, vinous, smoke, dark fruits, chocolate and a hint of windex or some sort of chemical in the finish. Taste is big, very vinous, rich, dark fruits, and milk chocolate. Tons of raisins, dates and light smoke. Big bodied, creamy, heavy and intense. Interesting.

22oz bottle from Superstar Beverage in Huntington. Pours a very thick, viscous black with some creamy, off white head. Nose has a ton of black licorice and molasses, hugely sweet, malt too, some mild smoke, some umami notes, plenty of booze too. Flavor follows right along, very thick, burnt caramel, molasses, liquid licorice, some anise, some smoke, pencil lead. Full bodied, thick, boozy finish.

Bottle shared at Zwanze Day 2012. Thanks. Pours a richer deep brooding blackish pour. Dark and opaque, the edges show just a faint light of brownish glow. A frothy brown head dies to a film and laces ok. Darker and ominous. Aromas offer roast and toast, smokey malts, cocoa and coffee. Firm heat, vanilla, and oak. Firm full stouty big flavors overwhelm the senses. Initial is bigger bodied, roasty and toasty off the bat with dry cocoa, coffee, and smokey malts. Vanilla, smooth silky malts into the middle with oak, spirit, and gentle heat. Toasty and roasty, cocoa and caramel, toast, smokey and roasty malts. Backend shows firm cocoa, chocolate and powerful smoke and roast. Really dig that. Finish is a bit dry and resiny, some darkness, lingering roast and smoke trail for awhile in the finish with cocoa, roast, gentle heat and really nice lingering flavors on the palate. Really nice offering if you dig the smoke and roast elements. Can see others really not enjoying this.
