Sampled March 2011; RBWG
The beer pours with a brown tinged, dark tan colore head. The beer is a black, opaque color with hints of brown around the edges. The nose has a super, umami like savory character, soy sauce even, somehow oily, peaty, smoky (this last is not overly heavy though, but it really contributes to the richness and umami laden aromatics); the umami melds with big roasted aromatics and takes it in a different direction from you standard big stout.

The beer feels chick and chewy as it hits the palate; textured, but is not anything cloying. A rich roast character melds with a malt and smoky richness. There is tons of umami character in the flavor; this is quite savory; and reminds me of burnt umami like teriyaki. The texture is viscous and somewhat thick, but definitely not overly thick. Peat smoke like flavors, woody oak character, almost a touch of spicy cedar character. There is some alcohol in the finish, but it is kept fairly in check. The finish makes me think of smoked coffee and chocolate; there is some sweetness here, though it is not anywhere near as cloying as it could be.

This is nice and rich, definitely satiating, but is a nice palate respite from the other beers that I have been trying in some weird way.

Bottle courtesy Americanbrew. Pours a very dark and thick black. Lovely legs on the glass. Aroma is sweet chocolate, light smoke with maple syrup and dark roasted notes. Huge tingle on the tongue. Roasted flavor with a gentle bit of ash. Nicely done.

Bomber. Thanks, Craig! Darkest brown pour wiu a small brown head sitting on top. Big intense aroma with lots of dark chocolate, molasses, anise, smoke, and some booze. The flavor is also really big. Dark chocolate, caramel, molasses, anise, smoke, and hops. I like the hoppy finish and the smokiness is rather restrained, which is good for a change. Fairly full-bodied and intense with a low carbonation level. Great beer.

UPDATED: JUN 26, 2011 Re-review, random Sunday night, time to tick this properly instead of a few ounce pour... pours a dark milk chocolate, some black, a dark tan head rises to full finger cap but is gone fast, not much lacing, the beer looks really thick... the nose is lots of full bodied milk chocolate with with a meaty smoke backbone, the smoke is very thick, almost smells like it was aged in a spirit barrel, has some alcohol... the taste is outstanding, so much going on but perfectly balanced the smoke becomes more of an accent, char comes out with a milky chocolate, not getting any oak, as it warms I get a bunch of prunes and oak really starts to shine, the mouthfeel is great, super coating... really outstanding beer to have if you like smoked stouts

Dark beer out of the bomber with a foamy brown head. Dusty chocolate and oak wood aromas in the nose. Thick oily mouthfeel. Flavors of good chocolate, buttery oak, vanilla, some licorice, yesterday’s camp fire and cigar ash. The alcohol starts to become more obvious as it warms. Really thick, complex beer.
