4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle pour, 2014 version. Pours like used gear oil. Utter black, skiff of espresso colored foam. Aroma is cherries, plums, soy sauce, smoke. Taste is plum, licorice, raisin, citrus rind bitterness, soy sauce, smoke. Body is so thick, almost syrupy, with minimal carbonation. Though the main palate is sweet, the finish is almost dry/bitter, somehow.
Wanted to amend; chocolate covered bourbon, caramel, cherries...

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Smoked beers: my nemesis! Fortunately, Bar Fly chose the more noble route of well-balanced smokiness than the rigorous assault seen in many of its peers. Rich, creamy flavors and body start to finish. Booze blends particularly nicely in this brew, using itself as a full-blown component of the flavor profile rather than a side product.
A pretty darn good stout, particularly for the style.
