black pour with small brown head. Big roasty/smoky aroma with some chocolate. The flavor is similar, with some anise/licorace and a warming bit of alcohol in the finish.

22 oz. bottle, pours black with a small brown head. Aroma brings out complex molasses, bourbon, vanilla and wood - not a whole lot of smoke. Flavour is rich as fuck, with loads of bourbon, vanilla and molasses, followed by a touch of smoked malt. Modest sweetness on the finish. Viscous as fuck, with a huge bourbon and vanilla finish. Excellent extreme beer.

Bottle thanks to Shig. Shared by me at Phresh’s birthday tasting. Pours oily black. Tan head. Nose/taste of fudge cake, molasses, bourbon, vanilla and oak. Motor oil thick but still not overwhelming. Delicious beer.

Have had this from the bottle recently, but as I didn’t trust my palate on the previous occasion, I nabbed this one on tap at Belmont. (Thanks to Brian for the unrated tastes, though.) A: Thick mocha head fading into an appreciable foam layer. Black as the river Styx in Hades. Leggy. N: Licorice, char, smoke, huge coffee, burnt brown sugar, molasses, vanilla, malted milk, black pepper, earth, and an appreciable cinnamon quality. T: Very sweet, then intensely bitter and smokey. Great interplay. M: Creamy, heavy body, oily like it belongs at Jiffy Lube. O: Reminds me of Hunahpu’s without the need for all of the adjuncts, and it is in fact, much better. Bourbon adds an appreciable depth without dominating the beer, and that makes it all the more superior in my opinion.

Bottle from 2014 for rate #6300:   Pours like motor oil, thick and black, viscous pour, small brown foamy head, little lacing.   Sweet roasted malts, apple skin, a touch of bourbon, and some very mild smoked malts on the nose.   Smooth on the tongue, similar to the nose but also picking up some soy sauce.   Hides the 12.6% very well.   Fairly full bodied, silky smooth.   Finishes with apple skin, sweet roasted malts, soy sauce, soft bourbon, and a touch of campfire.   A very easy to drink 13% Imperial Stout.   Yum!

Smells like an aerosol lubricant disaster, but tastes like chocolate and currants. It’s pretty good!

Batch 1. At about 4 years old, this is one that was better a while back. The smoke has given was to fruity raisiny oxidation, overwhelming the subtle fruitiness this beer has from the red wine barrels, vanilla?s faded leaving mild soy sauce notes and a nice rich stout base. The palate is similar with rich, fruity oxidation, raisins, mild toffee, dark chocolate and blackberry jam. Despite my criticism, this is very good, just not as special as it once was.
