Draft at Humpy’s. Dark golden. Solid but not necessarily thick head. Easy to drink but also a kick in the pants. Good beer. (#3955, 7/28/2010)

Draft at Midnight Sun Brewery. Pours a thick golden yellow. Aroma of grasses, grains and biting hops. Mouthfeel is also thick and flavors are strong and bold, with the hops reigning. This is certainly a style I wish they wouldn’t imperialize or double. The aspect of the pilsner being light and refreshing is gone. The flavor is good, but this is now a big beer for a style that is traditionally easy drinking. It is good, it just makes me want a lighter version.

On draft @ MSBC. Pours clear golden yellow with a thick foamy pure white head and lots of visible carbonation. Aroma of citrus and tropical fruit hops and very little else. Flavor comes mostly from the fruity hops with a bit of malt showing through, but there is a metallic finish at the end that I don’t care for. Medium to light body, active carbonation and a crisp dry mouth feel. Interesting beer, this drinks like a 4.5 abv beer not a 8.7 abv beer, alcohol is completely hidden, what kills this one for me though is the metallic taste in the finish.
