The beer is black with a quarter inch of tan head. The aroma offers some light roast, hints of pine. Relatively light (at least compared to the other stouts we drank that day) with sufficient carbonation. Decent flavor - certainly drinkable and enjoyable. A tad sweet with some chocolate notes. Simple and straightforward.

651mL thanks to savnac. Near ink pour with a mega beige head. Creamy head with mega lace. Nose is spicy chocolate, vanilla, sweet cocoa, slight fruit. Some sweet berries. Taste is dry, bitter, a bit ashy/dirty. Still mega dry and ashy. Just not a lot of creaminess. Pretty abrasive.

Bottled provided by Jay by way of savnac. Thanks for the ticks gentlemen! Pours a sense black with some brown hues. Nose is earthy, juniper in particular. Taste is familiar, but I can’t put my finger on it. Not much spruce in flavor, there is a little pine, but it’s focused mostly on chocolate, smoke, and heavy malt. Mouthfeel is a little thin, low carbonation, and a moderate finish. Pretty nice beer actually, happy to have a chance to try this.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20 JAXSON (480) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - APR 23, 2012
Pours a thick black with a creamy coffee like head. Nose is faintly sweet roasted malts, dry chocolate powder, and now that I know it’s there I can really pick out an almost minty spruce quality. Mouth is mostly roasted malts but sweet upfront with a round presence of that minty, sprucey character. Tastes like snow on trees in winter. Actually really nice.
