COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Alaska’s Most Wanted Series.

First brewed as part of our 2011 World Tour series, MOSCOW Rye Russian Imperial Stout is a hefty, opaque black liquid that pours slowly and soulfully into your snifter. A high percentage of spicy rye and roasted dark malts create a dense, chewy yet elegant winter wonderland of flavors. And from AK we say: Let it Snow…in Moscow.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 1/31/2013. Pours dense pitch black color with a 1-2 finger dense dark brown head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation retaining the head. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, molasses, toast, dark bread, spicy rye, smoke, raisin, plum, light char, and roast/smokey earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt, rye, and light-moderate dark fruit notes; with good strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, molasses, toast, dark bread, spicy rye, smoke, raisin, plum, light char, and roast/smokey earthiness. Fair amount of roast/smokey bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, coffee, molasses, dark bread, spicy rye, toast, smoke, light char, and roast/smokey earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity and robustness of big dark/roasted malt, rye, and light-moderate dark fruit flavors; with a great roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very creamy, slick, and lightly chalky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent rye imperial stout. All around great complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt, rye, and light-moderate dark fruit flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.

Pours motor-oil black with a huge head the darkest coffee-color I’ve ever seen. Aroma of coffee, chocolate, roast, cream. Taste very roasty, dark chocolate, coffee, very full mouthfeel, not nearly as sweet as I would have expected. Very roasty palate

Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, brown, mostly diminishing. Body is opaque black (flashlight tested). Aroma is heavily malty (roasted/burnt grain, bitter chocolate, coffee), with notes of tar, ash/smoke. Flavor is moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, moderately to heavily bitter. Full body, velvety texture, lively carbonation, moderately to heavily alcoholic. A roast monster...very clean but the aroma leaves some depth to be desired...I love love the roast, but it needs something to balance that aspect out, like hops or fruity notes or caramel or something. Some chocolate is there of course, but even that is in the bitter spectrum and very hardcore...this is like the black coffee of stouts. Very well-balanced for its type/size...lots of finishing bitterness, this is the opposite of most syrupy sweet fatiguing Impy stouts you find on shelves these days. This would be 4+ with a bit more aromatic intrigue beyond the roast.

Thick black with a dark brown head. Aroma of toasted grain, dark malts, and light cocoa. Taste follows with a nice hearty mouthfeel. This is a very traditional robust imperial stout.

Black of color with a brown head. An aroma of liqurice, sweets and spice. A flavor of liqurice, coffee, roasted malt, bitter and a nice oily texture!

Bottle shared at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Black with a huge brown head. Heavily roasty aroma with some coffee, a cocoa note and some hops. Dry-ish flavor, roasty, with light sweetness, smoke, coffee (with a light acidic hint), and a bitterish finish, more roasty, with a hoppy note. Full-bodied. Very nice.

Pours inky black, with a rich tan head. Somewhat weak aroma of malts and rye. Taste is a little bitter and fairly strong. Notes of coffee and licorice. Long lasting palate. Maybe I’m getting spoiled, but I didn’t like this one as well as several others. Not complex enough, I guess. Still, a clear thumbs up.

Black viscous pour small forced tan head. No lacing. Malty aroma with chocolate cherries and pepper. Taste is the same. Though slightly thin.
