Alaska’s Most Wanted Series.

First brewed as part of our 2011 World Tour series, MOSCOW Rye Russian Imperial Stout is a hefty, opaque black liquid that pours slowly and soulfully into your snifter. A high percentage of spicy rye and roasted dark malts create a dense, chewy yet elegant winter wonderland of flavors. And from AK we say: Let it Snow…in Moscow.

UPDATED: SEP 24, 2012 22 ounce bottle thanks to Mike. Pours an amazing black color with medium brown reddish head. A light rye and smoke nose. A sweet cocoa, rye, roast, bitter, dark chocolate, metallic. The big rye is dominant.

(22oz bomber thanks to AmericanBrew at RBWG) thick like oil in the glass, dark brown with tan dark wispy head. Nose of rye, lightly spicy, pumpernickel bread, weeds. Taste is ashy, dark chocolate, and a bit burnt for me.

A-- Poured black. Ink black, motor oil black, whatever, it was black as heck. Under a half inch of dark chocolate head. Great retention for what was there as a layer of film stuck around through drinking. Lots of lacing and a thick oily substance left through drinking. Great looking and evil looking at the same time. S-- A bit nondescript at first. Soft roast, burnt tires, dry chcolate and molasses. Once it warmed up a lot got some spiciness from the rye. Very dry nose. T-- Lots of roast, chocolate, molasses, big dark fruits, burnt tires, char and ash. Just not as oppressive as European RIS can be. Far more restrained in that aspect. M-- Thick, rich, and dry. Quite dry. Just enough carbonation to carry this and do it well. Full on body but just enough touches of sweetness to make this work. Like a big, massive wine in a lot of ways. Alcohol is well hidden and I guess the best comparison is some of the DeMolen stouts out there. O-- Dry as heck RIS. If you like sweet RIS then do not try to get this. Full on and big but it works as the dryness really helps this. More like a European RIS but not the massive char and ash that Mikkeller or DeMolen have. Big sipper and excellent beer. Very different US style stout

Bottle at CCB day, Sätila 2012-07-07. Black beer with a brownsmall head. Dark dried fruits and coffee aroma. Dark dried fruits, burnt sugar, coffee and some bitterness.

Deep black color with brown foam. Big tobacco leaf, deep roast, spicy rye aromas. Rich, smooth mouthfeel. Toasted dark spicy rye bread flavors with ash, deep roast malt, drying bitterness to finish--not sweet--a good thing

22oz bottle with huge thanks to deftim13. thanks so much, tim! pours a rich, silky, jet black capped by a menacingly dark, thick, chestnut brown head that leaves intense sheets of oily lace on the glass. aroma is absolutely amazing, truly unique, with heavy roasted malts, espresso, and baker’s chocolate complimented marvelously by spicy, toasted rye, smoked meats, and black licorice with subtle notes of graham cracker, molasses, and blueberries as it warms. flavor is wonderful as well with more imposing smoke notes layered atop bittersweet chocolate, burnt coffee beans, peppercorns, and sweet caramel with pumpernickel toast, raisins, port wine, and dry, bitter earth notes holding up the back end. palate is full, rich, and imposing yet not as decadent as Bar Fly or Berserker with smooth carbonation and a dry, spicy, smokey, bittersweet finish. overall, another world class imperial stout from Midnight Sun.

Black color, dark brown small head. sweet, alcohol, some butter, grainy, salty scent. Salty, mineral, alcohol, metallic, solvents taste. Warming alcohol. Smooth mouthfeel, medium high to high dry bitterness. Burning alcohol on the toungue.

(Bottle) Pours black brown head. The aroma holds mint, rye bread, hard roast and "dark" hop tones. Some alcohol on the nose. The flavour is medium sweet, heavily bitter and light acidic with hard roast, lots of hops and some brown sugar. The mouthfeel is round, light sticky and astringent with a light carbonation. Lingering bitter finish. Near full bodied.

UPDATED: JUL 15, 2012 Bomber shared @ tkrjukoffs CCB day tasting. Pours oily pitch black with a very small nougat brown head that quickly dissipates without leaving much trace. Smell is sweet and malty with sweet dark rye bread, dark quality chocolate, resinous wood, vanilla fudge, roasted malts, toffee, coffee, peat and alcohol. Taste is sweet, bitter, salty and malty with pumpernickel, bitter chocolate, tar, peat, salty liquorice, dark roast coffee, burnt caramel, pine, grass, grapefruit rind, resinous wood, minerals, wet soil, ash, burnt wood and hints of vanilla. Mouthfeel is slightly smooth, slightly dry, astringent and medium to full bodied. Finish is slightly sweet and bitter with resinous wood, roasted malts, coffee, bitter chocolate, liquorice and ash.
