Alaska’s Most Wanted Series.

First brewed as part of our 2011 World Tour series, MOSCOW Rye Russian Imperial Stout is a hefty, opaque black liquid that pours slowly and soulfully into your snifter. A high percentage of spicy rye and roasted dark malts create a dense, chewy yet elegant winter wonderland of flavors. And from AK we say: Let it Snow…in Moscow.

Nice aroma of dark chocolate, licorice, and spicy rye. The appearance is tar black, oily, almost no head. The flavor is chcolate, licorice, smooth coffee, and spicyness, attributable to rye. The finish is sweet, then a pine/resin bitterness, with some roastiness. A little booze in the flavor, and finish as well. Thick in body, oily mouthfeel. Excellently crafted imperial stout.

Bottle, 2013 release, 07/19/2013. Pours black, dark brown mocha head, dense and creamy, great retention and a thick beard of lacing. Aroma is rich, dark chocolate with intense, earthy coffee roast, dry and nutty. Taste is cocoa nut, very dark chocolate, high bitterness, licorice, some dark fruity offset, spicy finish. Thick body, smooth despite the strong flavors. Quite nice.

Most Wanted Series crushed with TheRon. Very cool label. Pours thick, pitch black, with a dark brown, bubbly head. A ridiculously good-looking beer. Everything about this beer is astringent as hell. I’m pretty damn okay with that. Sharp nose of black malts, coffee, roast, booze, a hint of acetaldehyde, and slight earthy hops. Full, thick mouthfeel, booze, more black malts, dark dark chocolate. a bit chalky, and very bitter. An incredibly well-crafted beer.

Bottle courtesy of Puzzl (thanks Andy) shared with Podey and Ramy. Pours a pitch black body with thin brown lacing. Aroma is deep, deep coffee roast, bitter chocolate and earthy, woody twigs. Mouthfeel is medium with notes of chocolate and coffee (both very bittering) and a light earthy character. Nice stout.

Bottle from Andy at the 4th of July tasting. Pours dark brownish black with a small tan head. Both the aromas and taste are super roasty with notes of chocolate, cocoa and bitter coffee with some subtle notes of sweeter dark fruits and malts.

Bottle. Blackish beer with a dark brown head. Rich malt and toffee aroma with light earthiness. Caramel and light coffee flavor with toffee and light chocolate. Fuller bodied. Caramel/toffee lingers with chocolate, earth, and licorice.

22oz bottle. Rating #65. Super thick pour, almost the consistency of milk, dark black with no light penetration and a brown head. Sweet dark fruit aroma, dried fruits and a little milk chocolate. Light roastiness and bitter dark malts that lightly linger on the tongue, not an overpowering taste overall, but pretty damn good. (2825)

Dark brown pour, brown head. Toasty flavors, some coffee, plums, light smoke. Good but not incredible.

Bottle from 16 Tons Taphouse, Eugene. Alaska’s Most Wanted. Pours very dark, good amount of rich brown head. Very appealing-looking. Aroma slightly roasty, rye very prominent, maybe some booze. Aroma OK but not amazing for the style. Body medium-rich, finish surprisingly sweet and long lasting. Nutty qualities of the rye dominant. Warming well-hidden. Quite a bit different, but very tasty.

Bottle pour opaque black. Nose of bacon, roast, chocolate. Taste of the same. Slightly thin mouth feel, but hey, who doesn’t love bacon.
