Alaska’s Most Wanted Series.

First brewed as part of our 2011 World Tour series, MOSCOW Rye Russian Imperial Stout is a hefty, opaque black liquid that pours slowly and soulfully into your snifter. A high percentage of spicy rye and roasted dark malts create a dense, chewy yet elegant winter wonderland of flavors. And from AK we say: Let it Snow…in Moscow.

Bottle at Darkness Day, high boost in full effect at this point. Pours black with tan head. Strong roasted malt and chocolate aroma. Flavor is also strong, thick dark chocolate and roasted malts. Would like to try this again!

I have not seen a darker head than this.d darker than milk chocolate, which the beer smells like, also molasses & black pepper, roast malt dominates the flavor, with resin hops, alcohol & brown sugar. very nice texture—oily, a slight bubble. burnt sticky alcohol finish

Pour out of 22 oz bottle, thick black pour with tan head, aroma brought notes of big rye, dark chocolate, licorice, red fruits, hints of dark fruit, hints of oak, slight veggie and metallic notes. Taste is a mix of dark chocolate, roast, hints of slight cardboard, hints of nice rye, spice, hints of earth, slight dark fruits, hints of earth, finishing fairly bitter, dry.

Bottle @ Steve’s house, courtesy of arminjewell. Thanks! Pours a deep brown/black appearance with a thin brown head. Anise, herbal, somewhat bitter, dark chocolate, fig, dark fruity aroma. A bit goopy, dark chocolate, light caramel, licorice, slightly sweet, a touch boozy, fig flavor. Carbonation is a bit low. Pretty tasty but not my favorite.

Haven’t had too many Midnight Sun brews, so I was super excited about this one. It was good, but just didn’t live up to my hopes and dreams. Aroma of dark bitter chocolate, tobacco, thick molasses. The viscosity was just a tad under my desired level. The taste was milk cocoa, dark roasted malts, some dashes of rye spice that perhaps leads to an unsettling finish. Not bad, just off a bit. Perhaps the rye is not my friend.

2011 bottle from SHIG (quite a while ago). Aroma is chocolate, soy, rye, black cherry, and burnt sugar. Flavor is much of the same with the soy, rye and burnt sugar taking center stage, but this is a very complex beast. Palate loses points for the moderate carbonation, but has a nice, thick mouthfeel that is rather oily. Excellent beer, pleasantly surprised. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

This poured a dark brown with a beige head. Aroma was rye, roast, dark chocolate. Flavor was bitter, lightly Smokey, and dark chocolate. OK impy but was hoping for a bit more from midnightsun.

Shared bottle with Timfoolery. Pours pitch black. Tastes of chocolate and maybe a little bit of expresso. The carbonation level seemed a little low. A little more carbonation puts it up with the elite beers. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

22 oz bottle from B&V. The appearance is a deep thick black hue with a big frothy brown head. The nose is full of roasted rye and some cigar smoke tones. The flavors follow with huge roasted malts, ton of rye, a real flake characteristic to it. Nice peppery coffee tone at times too with a bit if smoke. Mouth is full and drying with a slight alcohol finish. Delicious!.

22 oz bottle from trade with michaelinwa. 2013 release. Pours very thick, pitch black in color with almost no head but leaves a nice ring around the glass. Great aroma of rich sweet chocolate, caramel, dark fruit, red wine, vanilla, light roasted coffee, light smoke, and rye. Taste is moderately sweet up front with chocolate, coffee, dark fruit and vanilla. Finishes with mildly bitter coffee, dark fruit, rye, and light smoke. Very thick body, velvety smooth mouthfeel. Finish is a bit dry though. Overall, a very nice dense and complex imperial stout. Thanks Mike!
