Smoked double bock

This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a nice dark brown close to black color with a half finger white foamy head that dissipated within about thirty seconds. The lacing was there and somewhat filmy as it dissipated. The smell started off with a boozy sweet semi-dark chocolate. A light sweet meaty to smoky wood inessential entered in nicely. The taste took all of those previously mentioned flavors and combined to taste, meaty/enticingly sweet with an ample amount of woodiness. A nice sweet and sticky woody / meaty aftertaste lingers about. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent smooth and velvety graceful glossy sticky finish. I say this was a pretty good sipper. Overall, as a smoked beer I dig this. As a double bock, still it’s a good one.

Bomber. Pours deep red with just a small head. Quite bacony nose with toffee, baking spice and sweet bread. This is a pretty solid dopplebock, on the sweet side, but definitely on point for the style. It’s a little sticky, but not problematic. I really like how the assertive smoke plays with the sweeter flavors. There are hints of toffee, raisins, and of course, good solid smoke. Honestly, I like it, but it could use more smoke to cater to my personal palate and to balance the sweetness. It is well represetative of a smoked dopplebock though.

Bottle from Midnight Sun. Dark reddish brown color with a lasting light beige head. Very smoky aroma - bacon, ham, and toffee. The flavor is extremely bacony, one of the baconiest beers I’ve had. Medium sweet and well-balanced. Fairly full body with a long finish. Good one!

Cola colored body with cream colored head. Aroma is smoky malt and smoked dark fruit. Taste is malty caramel, smoke, faint bitter dark malt/hops. Palate is good, subdued carbonation and smooth viscosity. Finish is sweet. That first drink is a bit bacony...if you just keep drinking it, it’s better....ok, maybe not. Maybe I’m done with smoke if it’s not a stout.

Poured a brick red with little to no head. Malt over powers the smoke in the nose. Decently carbonated. The taste is very a smoky maltiness. No real heat from the alcohol. Also meaty and very dry.

Bottle: Poured a deep chocolate brown color with a two finger lacing tan head. Aroma is smokey. Taste is weird mix of smoke and medicinal malts. Maybe an off bottle?
