Glass at humpys. Pours a clear brown color with a medium white head. A big sweet smoky malty nutty nose. The flavor is big smoky chocolate, sweet malts, cherry. Solid.

On tap at Uber Tavern, pours a deep dark amber with a small beige head. Aroma brings out smoke notes upfront, followed by toasted chestnuts and a touch of dark fruit. Flavour is extremely well-balanced, with moderate smoke notes, followed by caramel, and toasted nuts. Very nice stuff - equal stuff between doppelbock and smoked beer.

A really nice smokey and well balance smokey ale. What can I say, hits all the buttons.

Draft at Uber. Clear dark ruby pour with ring of bubbles. A few splotches of irregular lacing. Aroma: bandaid smoke; dark fruit; mild chocolate. Taste: mouth full of smoke, with leather, lush malts. Malty without being particularly sweet, with a minimally bitter, warming finish. Palate: full body, average carbonation, smooth texture. Overall: this is a smoked beer I can get behind. Nice.

This was poured into a tulip. The appearance was a nice dark brown close to black color with a half finger white foamy head that dissipated within about thirty seconds. The lacing was there and somewhat filmy as it dissipated. The smell started off with a boozy sweet semi-dark chocolate. A light sweet meaty to smoky wood inessential entered in nicely. The taste took all of those previously mentioned flavors and combined to taste, meaty/enticingly sweet with an ample amount of woodiness. A nice sweet and sticky woody / meaty aftertaste lingers about. On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent smooth and velvety graceful glossy sticky finish. I say this was a pretty good sipper. Overall, as a smoked beer I dig this. As a double bock, still itís a good one.

Bomber. Pours deep red with just a small head. Quite bacony nose with toffee, baking spice and sweet bread. This is a pretty solid dopplebock, on the sweet side, but definitely on point for the style. Itís a little sticky, but not problematic. I really like how the assertive smoke plays with the sweeter flavors. There are hints of toffee, raisins, and of course, good solid smoke. Honestly, I like it, but it could use more smoke to cater to my personal palate and to balance the sweetness. It is well represetative of a smoked dopplebock though.

Bottle from Midnight Sun. Dark reddish brown color with a lasting light beige head. Very smoky aroma - bacon, ham, and toffee. The flavor is extremely bacony, one of the baconiest beers Iíve had. Medium sweet and well-balanced. Fairly full body with a long finish. Good one!

Cola colored body with cream colored head. Aroma is smoky malt and smoked dark fruit. Taste is malty caramel, smoke, faint bitter dark malt/hops. Palate is good, subdued carbonation and smooth viscosity. Finish is sweet. That first drink is a bit bacony...if you just keep drinking it, itís better....ok, maybe not. Maybe Iím done with smoke if itís not a stout.
