3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Ibrew2or3 (5758) - Tempe, Arizona, USA - DEC 30, 2009
Courtesy of tpd975. Pours deep gold with white head. The aroma is big with spicy hops mixing with Belgian yeasty spices and coriander – clove like spices. The taste has a nice even mix of Belgian yeasty spices and spicy to floral hops and then heading toward notes of grapefruit citrus hop flavor. Nice.

22 oz. purchased at 99 bottles. Surprised to have found this offering there, but they had limited the amount each person could buy. I don’t understand why there would need to be a limit, but oh well. Haze orange color with a fluffy head that doesn’t go away quickly. The head sticks around for quite some time. This beer looks perfect to me (in terms of what I feel an imperial/double should look like). Belgian yeast and brett are the first aromas that hit my nose. A very aromatic beer. Citrus fruit and touches of wood are hitting my nose as well. A very nuanced aroma I must say. Wow, the brett hits my taste buds and takes away from the hop profile. I do get a bitter taste towards the end that lingers, but I couldn’t tell you if I am getting a citrusy or pine hop flavor. The citrus fruit flavor comes through a bit more as the beer warms up and the brett is allowing other flavors to come through. Fairly nuanced flavor. I must say this beer is pretty damn good. I like it a lot because it is the first imperial/double I have tasted that uses brett. Not tasting much in the way of wood, but I know it has had a slight impact. Pretty damn good, surprised by the low scores.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 boFNjackson (3574) - Portland, Oregon, USA - DEC 25, 2009
Bottle... Poured golden with a thick white head. Bretty aroma with that yeast funk going on. The hops took over in the flavor profile giving a solid bitterness and a balance to the ABV. The barrel aging added a nice tone but overall hoppy and bretty going on.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 carruthm (1399) - Seattle, Washington, USA - DEC 25, 2009
Sour coated hops, sugar, like a sour candy, pours clear orange with a big head. Lots of bubbles. Flavor is kind of dull however, just a limp bitterness to it and by the time the head dissipates, the aroma is also pretty plain. Hugely disappointing after a great start. Had the aroma at 9 after pour, ended at 6.

Orangish pour. Aroma is funky with some nice spices and caramel. Flavor is again funky, not really sour...but funky. I get some belgian spices and yeast too. Very unique beer that is certainly worth seeking out.

bottle. unfiltered. hazed and cloudy orange, wit/weizen like in appearance. light bandaid, dried pineapple and mango pieces in the nose. hops are vibrant but slightly soapy. bitterness and sweetness are well-controlled, not overblown at all - revealing the multi-layered yeast and brett character - at times soapy/filmy, other times juicy/citrus-like, other times slightly fatty/goaty. doesn’t attempt to be aggressive, instead is balanced, well-attenuated and very drinkable.

Bottle… Cloudy golden ale with a white head. The funky, fruity nose is a touch acidic and mildly spicy - clove and coriander come to mind. Medium-bodied with fizzy carbonation. Tangy yeastiness and crisp, fairly bitter hops – grapefruit pith. Lengthy, crisp, moderately bitter finish. Belgian IPAs are definitely not my thing, but this one is top notch.

Bottle:   Dark straw, hazy, orangish hues, large rocky off-white head, very nice lacing.   Bretty nose, candyish sweetness as well.   Some candied citrus peel and floralness as well.   Smells tasty.  Brett, pixie stix like sweetness, citrus peel and slight hop on the tongue.   Finishes with quite a bit of citris bitterness.   Belgian like up front and more IPA like on the back.   Fairly well balanced.   Yeah, I think the key to Belgian IPA hybrids is brett.   Body and mouthfeel are good.   Lingering pixie stix and citrus sweetness.   Not a big IPA, but unique and flavorful.

POurs orange. Nose is spices, sweet malts, hints of funky brett. Flavor is floral and citrus hops, cloves, and corriander, sweet malts, mild hints of funk. Belgian IPAs are not my bag.
