Commercial Description:
Witbier with Brettanomyces
6.25 % Alcohol By Volume
20 International Bittering Units (IBUs)

CREATOR = Gabe

Beer Description: This Belgian witbier begins with equal parts malted wheat and pale barley to create its traditional cloudy white appearance. The addition of Brettanomyces gives ANCHOR its trademark "green apple" or "horse blanket" aroma and lends tartness to the flavor and finish. At over 6% ABV, this ANCHOR’s got a bit of more kick than most wits.

BEER LINE: "Raise your Anchor"

2009 Crew Brew Series: Heading into 2009, the NINE of us will each designnamebrew a beer to be released in 2009. We are all very excited about this series. It’s a great way to “freeze” this time and space – right before we jump into the new place and add new folks. These NINE beers will be fabulously eclectic and delicious.

Creator of This Beer: Since joining MSBC in 1998, Gabe has worked and mastered the complete gamut of jobs in our brewery. As Head Brewer, he uses his accumulation of brewing knowledge and experience to continually conceptualize and create amazing beers. With oak-barrel aging, a multitude of yeast strains and a plethora of processes in back pocket, Gabe is now experimenting with Brettanomyces and other "bugs". This beer combines his long-standing favorite beer style, witbier, with his new BFF, Brettanomyces. Raise your Anchor!

Not a fan at all. I feel like the brett chopped out all the residual sweetness characteristics of a witbeer leaving it a bit dull.

22 oz. bottle shared by shigadeyo. Pours a slightly hazy piss yellow color with a small white head. The aroma is clean crisp fruity, wheat grass, horse blanket, and yeast. The flavor is crisp citrusy, grassy, the Brett is present with a mild tart funk, sweetness midpalate, very sessionable. This was medium light and refreshing. Although not a preferred style I thought this was decently well done. Rating #35 for this beer.

Bottle… Hazy straw-colored ale with a small, fizzy, white head. The nose is of pale grains, light funkiness and mild acidity. Light-bodied with fizzy carbonation. Well-balanced with crisp bitterness and gentle acidity. Crisp, clean, bone-dry finish.

bottle @ Tampa xmas gathering. pours golden, white head. Aroma , citrus hops, spices, coriander, mild yeast nose. Flavor, plenty of coriander, wheat, yeasty, fizzy carbonation, some astringency with a prolonged tart finish. Odd for a witbier.

Bottle shared by shigadeyo. Poured hazy yellow color with a medium frothy white head that mostly lasted with good lacing. Moderate bret yeast and citrus aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium citrus bittersweet flavor with a medium bittersweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met.

( 22oz bottle thanks to BMan1113VR) Pours very opaque light yellow with great head. Nose is filled with brett, coriander and grass. I taste tons of brett here, earthy, spices. Overall a nice sweet balance, but way over-carbonated too.
