1FastSTi (2551), Glendale, Wisconsin, USA Dec 27, 2007 2005 vintage bottle shared by Jason. This is an awesome beer! Pours to a hazed over dark chestnut body with an ultra thin off-white head. The aroma is absolutely amazing. Flaked barley and super caramelized Maris Otter? Liquid toffee, caramel, perfect malts. The flavor is insanely caramelized toffee, clean barley, nice lingering muted hops. Very beautifully aged. I wonder what a fresh one would taste like. The palate is rich and creamy, aged sherry but every so slight. Sweet and full bodied. Ughsmash (3983), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Dec 26, 2007 Updated: Dec 27, 20072005 bottle thanks to Tim!! Poured clear, deep garnet with just a ring of tan headage sticking around. The aroma had a delightful oak, bourbon, and vanilla presence over dark fruit and cararmel at the base.. everything blended together well, and the age managed to mellow it out a bit. The flavor had drawn caramel and lots of warm dark fruits on the syrupy core with hefty, yet well-integrated barrel accents all around (and interlaced).. very sweet finish with the fruits, vanilla, and bourbon rocking the finish.. great stuff! Thick and syrupy on the palate with a light herbal bitterness and alcohol warmth (but nowhere near as much as I expected).. long finish was a bit dry. This was most excellent! Ofortuna (322), Grafton, Wisconsin, USA Dec 26, 2007 Many thanks to Jason for this wonderful treat! Wow, the aroma - Notes of alcohol, sweet caramel, oak and pinot noir. Flavours of a sweet sticky goodness with plenty of barrel aging for an added layer of complexity. Nice kettle caramelization and the emphasis is definatley on a dominant malt presence. A bit fusel overall and could probably be toned down a bit. A great English inspired barley wine. BrianK (190), Livingston, New Jersey, USA Oct 15, 2007 Darkest barleywine i’ve seen in a while. kp’s review said it best so i’m not even going to say any more. kp (8400), Woodstock, Georgia, USA Sep 1, 2007 Updated: Jan 17, 2009

Appearance: pours thick and muddy brown with a scant head
Aroma: sweet malt aroma with a smokey earthy essence
Body: nice thick body

GG (1613), NorCal, California, USA Jul 13, 2007 NorCal tasting July 07 - Is it possible that no one has rated this beer on BP in over 2 years? Thanks to beerguy101 for bringing this (I think). The beer pours out a deep copper/amberish color, almost zero head (only wisps of foam here and there). Aroma is clearly raisins and figs with a heaping dose of hoppy pineage but there is some subtle brown sugar, caramel and some alcohol. Mouthfeel is sticky, mildly syrupy but solid. Obvious caramel-like sweetness in the flavor department with just enough hops to keep it from being overly one-sided. A nice touch of brown sugar in the finish as well. A really nice b-wine! mkobes (2103), paramus, New Jersey, USA Jul 3, 2007 2005, Bottle at Barcade tasting. Deep brownish copper in color with a little off white tan head. Brown sugar aroma with dark fruit notes. Caramel notes. Malty and dark fruity flavor. Plums, raisins, and fig notes. Finish is sweet. Smooth tasting. Full bodied. Dry tasting. Nice beer. moejuck (1165), Ohio, USA Jun 20, 2007 ’05 Vintage. Wow. Brown sugar aroma with some caramel and raisins. Murky brown body with a tan head and some thick sediment. Full, thick, creamy palate. The taste follows the aroma with a hint of hops. Incredibly full flavor and no hint of the alcohol really. Wonderful stuff (a la vintage Hardy’s).
