erway (1002), Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA Jun 9, 2007 2005 vintage. Pours a deep brown with a loose off-white head. Aroma of dates, bourbon, wanilla, almonds, deep caramel, sherry...WOW! Body is silky, sweet, big but not massive like some of it’s ilk. The flavors are pure BBA, lovely, and not overwhelming. Huge malt and caramel with light esters and a touch of brandy. The finish is lightly bitter, just enough to give it some dryness. A really beautiful English style BW. And it’s aged really well. kramer (2407), Sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA May 19, 2007 22 oz bottle, via trade. Pours a clear mahogany brown body under a tight bubbled beige head that receded to a thin covering. The aroma is so rich and malty it’s amazing. Dark fruits, raisins, caramel, toffee, light alcohol, and a little port. Flavor is very rich as well, reminds me of decadent nougat candies. Heavy sweet caramel and toffee with a rich, slightly bourbon barrel finish. A good amount of alcohol, but enough risidual sweetness to balance it out, though it did get a bit too much by the end of the bottle. Mouthfeel is fairly thick and full bodied with a slightly sticky cloying finish. Very warming alcohol that actually tingled my gums a little. This was just sooo good. It escapes me how this could be 14% ABV. I would love to cellar some of this, cause I really think that it would hold up well to a good amount of oxidation. Ty5592 (1015), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA May 9, 2007 Bottle from NYbeer. Dirty murky amber/ brown color. Very malty aroma with some toffee and wood notes. The taste was extremly rich and chewy. Sweet and creamy with some buttery notes. Nice Sham (1846), Seattle, Washington, USA May 5, 2007 Mahogany with sticky lacing. Hot and spicy with a touch of perfumey. Chemical notes almost like pinesol. Husky with a little alcohol. arjoseph (594), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 28, 2007 Sampled at a gathering of TN Ratebeerians a couple months ago; thanks to Springslicker for bringing it (obained via trade with footbalm). In my opinion, this was the star of the Nashville Tasting. Transluscent hazy brown; tan head diminishes to a heavy dusting. Smells like golden raisins soaked in port, bourbon and chocolate; in other words, smells rich as all hell, and strong. Full and smooth in the mouth; rich and pensive. Buttery full burnt caramel blending in the mouth with a thick bar of melted semi-sweet chocolate. Velvety in texture. Flavors linger long into the finish without adding much else, except maybe a little butterscotch. Made me imagine taking long sips of this from a snifter in a mahogany and maroon library in a velvet smoking jacket, listening to some Baroque music right before a decadent dinner. I want more. 00cobraR (1096), Greensboro, North Carolina, USA Apr 1, 2007 Pours out a nice coppery color with a small head. aroma is very sweet and fruity. Flavor was similar with a hint of the alcohol. The alochol was well hidden. for a 14% beer, it was very difficult to detect. TURDFERGUSON (1594), Carrboro, North Carolina, USA Mar 20, 2007 Another tasty bw at the carolina gathering. I think this one came from Tom’s beer fridge too but i am not positive. I remember this being farily sweet and powerul and not much else. Thats all I remember, I mean. But I do know I enjoyed it and hope it shows up at my doorstep someday! glkaiser (1150), Seattle, Washington, USA Mar 19, 2007 2006 on tap at Brouwer’s Hard Liver. Dark ruby red, viery inviting aroma...tons of brown sugar. Taste is brown sugar, caramel and a bit of oak. Bit of a bite at the end, but pretty mellow. Awesome. I loved this beer....I want more.
