Commercial Description:
Arctic Devil Barley Wine, aptly named after the ferocious wolverine of the north, is an English-style (meaning malt-inclined) barley wine. Though the recipe and process for Arctic Devil have evolved over the years, it is typically brewed in January then aged in oak barrels for several months before the entire batch is blended, bottled and released on the Friday after Thanksgiving. In its youth, Arctic Devil gnarls and snarls its way across the palate. Containing this beast of a beer for long periods in oak barrels--some having previously aged port, wine or whiskey--tames the unleashed malt and fierce hop flavors, melding and mellowing this powerful liquid into an incredible elixir worthy of a brewer's table. Each annual batch of Arctic Devil Barley Wine represents the brewers' resolve to create an intriguing and sought-after barley wine by precisely brewing to well-designed specifications, carefully selecting the type and combination of barrels to use for aging, and meticulously checking the beer as it ages. Distinct nuance and complexity are contributed by the wood's previous tenants, resulting in unique flavor profiles in each batch that continue to change over time. We invite you to savor Arctic Devil Barley Wine upon its release then cellar some for future enjoyment.

Bottle. Red brown colour with a nice fizzy head. Lovely aroma of heavy caramel, malt, oak, dried fruit and very hoppy. Great flavour of raisons, heavy malt, coconuts and ends up alcoholic.

Bottle from sprinkle marked 10%ABV. Thanks, Mike! Small tan head that mostly diminished with poor lacing, mostly opaque with a little light coming through to see some floaties along with some carbonation, and a brown hue. Nose was sweet, dark fruits, caramel, malty, and vinuous. Flavor was sweet, thick, somewhat chewy, vinuous, and dark fruits. Tingly, thick mouthfeel. Medium-full body.

A murky red-brown beer with a thin beige head. The aroma is sweet with a very powerful alcohol note, but also strong notes of over ripe fruits, malt, caramel, and cinnamon. The flavor is very sweet malty with lots of over ripe fruits, and caramel, leading to a nice hoppy end, with the alcohol burning the throat. I believe this will give You the warmth even in Alaska. The mouthfeel is very thick - I’ll describe it as an alcohol soup - how ever that’ll work, I have no idea?

(Bottle 65 cl) Pours a clear, reddish brown with tiny impurities. Small, off-white head. Vinous oak aroma. Solid body again with lots of oak, overripe fruit and caramel. Some sherry-like accents. Surprisingly subdued bitterness. 130806

Dark brown. Small, off white head. Rich caramel malt, piney and resinous hops, dark fruits - big time figs and raisins, wood, cocoa powder, and subtle alcohol. Full body, balanced. Excellent barley wine. Have to try more of their brew.
