Bottle. Clear dark amber beer with a small offwhite head. Sweet, malty, chocolate, vanilla and caramell aroma. Malty, salty, vanilla, caramell flavour with alcohol notes.

(bottle) hazy amber with a small brown head; faint aromas of caramel and dried fruit; subdued and balanced flavour with a long light sweet finish; bit unusual in subdued flavour for the type, still good

Pretty sure this was a bomber from 2007, happy to finally get to try this. Dark mahogany with a thin khaki head that disappears fairly quickly. Needed a bit of time to open up once it was poured into the glass but once it did the aroma was delicious - vanilla, sweet caramelize malts and brown sugar, booze is mellow and well integrated, a bit of balsalmic glazed figs. Mild carbonation, moderate+ body, goes does really easy, slight oxidization, sweet with a slight alcohol kick on the finish. Tasty.

Poured into a perfect pint. 2008 vintage.
4.0 A: Clear darker amber color. Aggressive pour yielded just one finger of light brown creamy/frothy head. Retention is okay given the ABV and a short ring of lacing is left.
4.5 S: Nose on this is divine. Perfect mix between the barrel and the beer. Bourbon is fruity, leathery, and lightly earthy. Oak and vanilla with no tannic astringency. The base offers a ton of caramel, moderate toffee, tobacco, raisin, dates, prunes, sugar plums, and apple. Sweet sugary maltiness, molasses, and some toastiness. Alcohol is non-existent.
3.5 T: Taste is a bit of a let down after experiencing the nose. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still tasty, but the mouthfeel is a bit too thin, which causes issues in the taste. Basically, the taste isn’t as potent as I’d like. Same flavors as in the nose, just less intensity. Leathery bourbon, earthiness, and light fruits. Caramel, toffee, tobacco, raisin are strongest. Prunes, sugar plum, molasses, and toastiness next. Apple underneath. Moderately sweet with just a light booziness. Borderline 4.0.
3.0 M: Lighter medium to medium body. Good moderate carbonation, especially for a beer this old. Missing creaminess and body. If this were a bit thicker, the taste would be better too.
4.0 D: It’s a good beer that just has one fatal flaw. Great flavors, but I need more maltiness when I’m drinking a barleywine. I’ll have to try this fresh sometime.

Bottle sampled at Kurt’s Blarneywine tasting on 3/16/13. Dark brown in color with a medium tan head. Caramel and raisin nose with some fig, banana and roasted malt notes. Malty and chocolatey flavor with some caramel and fig before a dry finish.

Bottle shared during RBWG-JAX! Deep amber brown pour with a small khaki head. Rich BA aroma with fudge and coconut goodness on top of rich dark fruits, caramel, toffee, and more. Luxurious slightly sweet BA barleywine flavor to boot. Good stuff!

Bottle, 2013 vintage, 05/19/2013. Pours dark mahogany, dense off-white head settles to a nice crema on the surface, dense lacing around the glass. Aroma is vanilla caramel cream, toffee and dark grained bread, touch of chocolate, bourbon. Taste is caramel chocolate, vanilla fudge, raisin and fig, a bit of roast and hop bitterness, bourbon finish. Full, creamy mouthfeel, surprisingly not overly heavy for the ABV. Delicious.

on tap at city beer 2013 vintage, pours a dark reddish brown. Smell is boozey with bits of vanilla and plumb. Taste is butterscotch, vanilla and has a warm finish from the booze. Tasty.
