Sparky27 (1559), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Nov 19, 2008 Bomber from the one and only JCB. Pours a completely pitch black with a 2 finger tan head and streaky lacing. Nose is burnt barley and roasted coffee beans. Taste is toasted malt, dark chocolate and espresso with a smoky flavor in the finish that gives way to a slight metallic flavor. Lighter mouth feel than I expected given the appearance, but still pretty creamy. Pretty decent offering. Thanks Big J! ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA Nov 18, 2008 Bottle from my buddy in Portland. Thanks. I have seen this one online when I was ordering, but I just never got around to buying it. Pours out a dark brown color with a tan head on it. There is some roasted smokey flavors in the nose, with a hint of coffee. Not really all that much going on there. The taste is sweet and smooth, pretty heavily carbonated. Almost like a watered down feeling on the mouthfeel. Not sure if I like that or not. It is good, but its not Arctic Devil good. Or Bezerker. blankboy (3157), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Nov 18, 2008 Bottle (22oz) shared with HogTownHarry, garthicus, jerc & mabel -- courtesy of jerc & mabel. Pours a very dark brown with a massive diminishing frothy tan head. Dry, roasty aroma, a bit sweet and a tad past it’s due date I think. Flavour, also dry, of roasted malt, coffee and grassy hops. Average bodied. Not great but pretty good. shadey (1496), Rochester, New York, USA Nov 1, 2008 22oz bottle from Belmont Station. Black pour with a huge dark tan head of lacy cream. The aroma is rich chocolate and coffee. Not that pleasent of a mix. I’ve definitely tasted better blends of these two flavors. The tastes are actually much better. The twang goes away in the taste. It gets better the more I drink. It is appropriately lighter than a stout and easy to drink. GodOfThunder (855), Orlando, Florida, USA Oct 30, 2008 Thanks to Beerlando for bringing this to the BBBash! Pours black with a dark tan head and a strong vanilla flavor. Lots of over roasted coffee and a dry taste. This actually wasn’t one of my favorites. Almost a little too bold on the roasted malt. jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Oct 26, 2008 2008-10-22. Black body, good sized foamy tan head. (4+) Very very dry roast malt in the aroma, and continues in the flavour. Very dry and roasty bitter flavour. Average palate is on the thin side. Just too dry for me. Bottle from Brown Jug, Anchorage dchmela (1406), Orlando, Florida, USA Oct 24, 2008 Thanks to Daknole for the taste at the the McBackus Backyard Bash 08. Pours a dark blackish red with a tan head. Huge coffee aroma with a dry bitterness. Taste is slightly thin, big coffee, dry and slightly astringent. Very bold coffee porter that has a great aroma, but kind of left a little to be desried on the taste. Crosling (1854), Loveland, Colorado, USA Oct 24, 2008 A dark brown colored brew with a small, very light tan head that fades to a collar. Coffee and espresso aromas, but devoid of any aromatic malt character and the coffee character isn’t very suave or complex. Flavor has some nice things going on, but is disappointing overall. Very light tasting, not much nuance or malt complexity. I want bolder flavors and aromas. I really like Midnight Sun. They make incredible beers. But this is a pretty weak example. They can and should do better.
