Commercial Description:
Inspired by local artist & roaster Michael Allen's eccentricly-named blend of coffee beans, Midnight Sun's brewers designed a beer recipe and infusion process that perfectly captures the alluring aroma, satisfying flavor and curious legend of Allen's Arctic Rhino Coffee. Arctic Rhino Coffee Porter combines two quintessential Pacific Northwest favorites: coffee and ale. The result is wonderfully romantic and robust--a duel-fueled porter that melds charismatic dark malt with freshly roasted coffee beans. The (un)rest is up to you.

Huge roasted chocolate nose - deep and rich. Hearty roasted chocolate malt backbone. Medium roasted coffee bean character that is showcased in the silky smooth chocolate finish. One dimensional but really excels as a great textbook example of the style.

no justice, no peace ..don’t trust the police .. . dark, beautiful roast level .. . nice foam .. . odd off putting aftertaste .. . stoked to try .. . would be perfect if it wasn’t for that strange back taste .. Sometimes when I wake up in the morning Mr. McCracken’s already there.

22 oz bomber. Black with a large, medium-brown head that is long lasting. Nose is initially a fruity citric punch but quickly replaced by sweet roasted coffee, charred wood, bittersweet cocoa and a long molasses end. Moderately sweet flavor initially, turning mildly bitter and just a touch salty. Carbonation is lively, with a light-to-medium body, slightly oily texture and lightly bitter bakers chocolate finish. Rather light on the hops and chocolate for my tastes, but I still really enjoyed it. A big thanks to gator2683 for setting a bottle aside for me and sending down to Illinois by way of a courier.

Rich blackened earth color with mocha head and good lacing. Smells of earthen coffee, light smoke and bitter chocolate, perhaps a hint of herbal hops. Coffee dominates the flavor, mild bitter hops, chocolate in the mid-palate and roasty in the finish. Body is medium and palate is dry. This was drinkable but lacking the robust character that the bottle professes.

Pours a deep dark brown with a tan head. Tastes of smokey coffee, but is too weak and light, almost watery mouthfeel. Did have some nice lacing. Overall impression was of weak coffee.

Bottle. Poured black with a moderate beige head. Aroma is mostly coffee with a touch of an acidic note. Flavor is coffee dominated with some smoke and a bit more of that acidic note. Something felt a little off on the midpalate that I have trouble putting my finger on. The biggest downfall of this was how watery it felt. It was like drinking watered down cold coffee and wasn’t entirely pleasant.

Dark brown with a rich tan head. Dirty coffee bean and ash sting the nose. Additional aroma elements include light cashew and chocolate. The flavor is muted by an oily body that slicks the mouth and leaves behind little lasting flavor, mostly nut and coffee with hints of milk. The body really kills the flavor profile and finish. Some good elements here, but no continuity in the experience.

bottle, nice roasted coffee aroma with a smooth bitter taste is hampered somewhat by a bubbly palate that doesn’t mesh well with a darker coffee porter

Poured a deep brown with a thick tan head that dissipated quickly. Typical porter aromas of coffee and chocolate, a good balance. Tastes much the same but finished on a lingering bitter coffee note. Palate was a bit thin and something just seemed to be lacking in this one.
