Mild aroma, some chocolate, very little trace of barrel aging. More light chocolate, some coffee, very smooth. Pretty good overall, but the barrel aging wasn’t really prevelant. | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | May 23, 2009 Sampled at the Ohio group tasting on DLD eve ’09. Black pour with a medium light brown head. Chocolate malt aroma with some boozy influence and roasty coffee. Chocolate flavor up front that is more dry than sweet, followed by some bourbon and a creamy and bitter coffee finish. Despite all the ridiculously good beers we tried on this night, this was probably my favorite. Many many thanks to whoever brought this (I’ll assume it was Brad or Mike). daknole (2898), Plantation, Florida, USA

This IS my new favorite beer. Wow. And wow again. Pours super dark brown color wtih a rich chocolate brown head. This beer looks amazing. and it doesn’t stop there. The aroma is just amazing. Tons of chocolate fudge, sweet brown sugar, vanilla, oak, light bourbon, molasses, and the mouthfeel is just ridiculous. Perfect 5. I hearby offer a plea for MORE MORE MORE! fiver29 (715), Cleveland, Ohio, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Apr 11, 2009 Bottle pours pitch black with a dark tan head. Aroma is dark roasted malt with some vanilla and whiskey. Heavy mouthfeel. An oily slick black. Everything an imperial stout should be. Flavor follow the nose and carries with it some coffee, chocolate, and anise flavors. A very solid brew. hellbilly (1522), scottsdale über alles, Arizona, USA

pours deep brown nearly black with orange at the edges and a small tannish head. moderate spotty lacing.
this smells really sweet... chocolate malt powder, wood, whisky, brown sugar and molasses.
surprisingly low level of sweetness on the palate... molasses and black raisins without the sugar, milk chocolate, vanilla, wood and a huge dose mellow smooth whiskey. normally i do not care for bourbon beer but this is well done and not overbearing.
medium body with a smooth texture and soft creamy carbonation. apertif beer...8/4/8/4.5/17/4.1 SuperDave70 (1157), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA

Deep black pour with a small creamy brown head. Big bourbon aroma, along with chocolate and molasses. Flavor is dominated by bourbon and wood, with some vanilla and caramel coming through. Very good stuff. Thanks Eric! BOLTZ7555 (1080), Phoenix, Arizona, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Feb 25, 2009 2005 bottle courtesy of Sparky27 @ Hellbilly’s Hellraiser 3.0 Tasting...THANKS ERIC!!! Deep rich mahogany pour just shy of ebony with spotty lacing and a small latte colored head. The strong whisky aroma that rose from the body of the brew crossed my eyes at first...and then more subtle caramel, chocolate and brown sugar were evident. Molasses, Jack Daniel’s, and significant woodiness dominate the flavor. Robust. A little thin in the mouthfeel. Still a good beer, for sure. neepsntatties (320), Portland, Oregon, USA

Hallelujah, hallelujah, halle-lu-u-u-jah!!! Is this fantastic stuff or what?! Colour... infinitely black with a corpulent tan head. Nose... exuding anise, dark roasted coffee, DARK chocolate, molasses and dried, dark fruits. Palate.... chewy, thick, unctuous, viscous, Pedro Ximenez Solera ’27 and Christmas pudding, from the dark side. Finish... loooooooooong and resonant. All hail the Midnight Sun crew!
