pours deep brown nearly black with orange at the edges and a small tannish head. moderate spotty lacing.
this smells really sweet... chocolate malt powder, wood, whisky, brown sugar and molasses.
surprisingly low level of sweetness on the palate... molasses and black raisins without the sugar, milk chocolate, vanilla, wood and a huge dose mellow smooth whiskey. normally i do not care for bourbon beer but this is well done and not overbearing.
medium body with a smooth texture and soft creamy carbonation. apertif beer...8/4/8/4.5/17/4.1 SuperDave70 (1157), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA Mar 13, 2009 Sampled at hellbilly’s hellraiser 3 gathering. Bottle courtesy of Sparky27. Deep black pour with a small creamy brown head. Big bourbon aroma, along with chocolate and molasses. Flavor is dominated by bourbon and wood, with some vanilla and caramel coming through. Very good stuff. Thanks Eric! BOLTZ7555 (1053), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Feb 25, 2009 2005 bottle courtesy of Sparky27 @ Hellbilly’s Hellraiser 3.0 Tasting...THANKS ERIC!!! Deep rich mahogany pour just shy of ebony with spotty lacing and a small latte colored head. The strong whisky aroma that rose from the body of the brew crossed my eyes at first...and then more subtle caramel, chocolate and brown sugar were evident. Molasses, Jack Daniel’s, and significant woodiness dominate the flavor. Robust. A little thin in the mouthfeel. Still a good beer, for sure. neepsntatties (285), Portland, Oregon, USA Feb 21, 2009 2008 bottle courtesy of, "AKfaust". Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah, hallelujah, halle-lu-u-u-jah!!! Is this fantastic stuff or what?! Colour... infinitely black with a corpulent tan head. Nose... exuding anise, dark roasted coffee, DARK chocolate, molasses and dried, dark fruits. Palate.... chewy, thick, unctuous, viscous, Pedro Ximenez Solera ’27 and Christmas pudding, from the dark side. Finish... loooooooooong and resonant. All hail the Midnight Sun crew! Sparky27 (1567), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Feb 17, 2009 2005 bottle shared with the AZ Crew at hellbilly’s hellraiser 3.0 tasting. Pours black with maroon hues and a small tan head. The nose is oaky bourbon, molasses and roasty malts. The taste is vanilla, wood, brown sugar and bourbon with a light bitter coffee finish. Medium bodies. Good stuff. jkwalking05 (1483), Arlington, Texas, USA Feb 8, 2009 Black in color with a small tan head. Aromas are of molasses, coffee, and chocolate. Coffee flavor is prevalent with some cocoa. A smooth, thick body. lakersfan16 (53), Anchorage, Alaska, USA Feb 4, 2009 22 oz. bottle.
Pours extremely dense and viscous, with a dark brown head. The taste is extremely complex, very chewy, malty, and syrupy.
Midnight sun usually produces great imperial stouts, and this one is one of the best. after4ever (2711), Brier, Washington, USA Jan 11, 2009 22. Thanks, SuzyGreenberg! Holy crap, what a score you hauled in! Jet black with a burnt tan head. Tons of plum, prune, and dark pitted tree fruit on the nose, along with plenty of coffee and then a blast of creosotey, almost sweet smoke. Creamy medium body. Coffee, roast, fruit, and some light nutty bitterness on the mid-palate. Words absolutely fail to capture the pleasures offered by drinking this beer.
