4.3 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Viscous black pour with a tan head. Aromas of bourbon, oak, pipe tobacco, and maple. Flavor is bourbon forward with the sweet flavors of molasses and maple syrup coming through nicely, notes of the roasted malts come out as well. Oak notes in the sweet and long finish, slightly warming from the abv. So complex and balanced! I’d been wanting to try this beer for a long time and it did not disappoint at all! Delicious!

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
At the Good Life, Massapequa Park. Awesome aroma, chocolate, vanilla, oak, molasses, licorice. The appearance is deep black, deep tan head. The flavor is licorice, tobacco, molasses, chocolate, vanilla, light bourbon. The finish is bittersweet chocolate, oak, sweetness of bourbon, but no booze burn. for such a high ABV, the booze is almost undetectable. Beautiful beer

3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Dense opaque black, near nonexistent tan lacing. Potent aroma of chocolate, caramel, coffee, vanilla, charred wood, a hint of maple syrup. Vinous, with a slight umami taste is prevalent. Viscous but the body is a bit thin for the style and alcohol content.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
2013 bottle from Whole Foods. Black with a brown head, fades to a faint ring around the glass. Light maple, molasses, vanilla, oak, some bourbon and booze, roasted/burnt malts. Full body, moderate carbonation, hint of sweetness, alcohol warmth, more molasses, thick, long complex finish. Everything is very finely balanced and works very well together.

Keg at Blind Tiger, NYC, special keg beer at 5pm, 25/11/13.
Pitch black with a big ole proper dirty tan head that thins a little but retains well.
Nose is big roasty ballsacks, dark chocolate, light smoke, tar, earthy.
Taste comprises big roast tones immediately followed up by a layer of sweetness, dark toffee fudge, dark chocolate, light boozey do.
Full bodied, fine carbonation, booze coated finish.
Solid impy work, not too hot for 12%.

3.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Vintage 2012, 12.7% ABV
Pours black with some mocha surface foam and rimming, this dissipates leaving an inky black surface. Smells mineralic, lots of sweet vanilla, some bits of bourbon, caramel and oak alongside hints of licorice and dark chocolate nibs. The mineral quality has some notes I really value in a -bal beer. Taste is sweet and robust. Plenty of toasted and roasted oats, some licorice, raisin, wood, coffee and nougat. Not as impressed with the taste. Full bodied with low carb and a dry finish. Nice beer, not worth the effort for me.

4.4 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bomber. An opaque black beer, with a large, frothy, mostly lasting dark brown head. The aroma is moderately to heavily malty (roasted grain, molasses, chocolate), with notes of maple, vanilla, coconut, raisins, bourbon, wood and alcohol. The flavor is heavily sweet, lightly acidic, lightly bitter. Full body, oily/thick texture, soft carbonation, pretty long finish with light to moderate bitterness, moderately to heavily alcoholic. One of the best BA Impy nose I’ve ever encountered for both complexity and intensity. Super sweet in the mouth, but I’m happy that the bourbon is not overbearing. As usual in my case for the Bourbon Barrel Aged Stout I enjoyed more sniffing rather than drinking it. Superb, anyway.
