2010 vintage generously shared by shadowane. Pours pitch black and completely opaque without a hint of lighter color when held to a light and a 1.5 finger frothy dark mocha head with good retention, slowly fading into a lasting ring. Sporadic splotches and chunks of lacing left behind. Sweet, slightly roasted aroma with hints of roasted coffee bean, silky chocolate, honey, molasses, bittersweet dark chocolate, tobacco and cedar. Slightly leathery with some earthy oak tannis as well as some faint vanilla. The barrel character is evident but not over powering in the nose letting the other scents shine through. Chewy medium body thatís on the fuller end with a slightly dry, bitter hop presence and a very roasted malt character. Deep roasted flavor up front with silky bittersweet dark chocolate, coffee/espresso bean and oatmeal. This is countered by a nice creamy lactic presence, that along with the molasses and honey, adds complexity and fullness to the palate. This gives this beer itís viscosity and sweetness and compliments the earthy oak very nicely. The ABV is excellently masked with little to no heat making it incredibly quaffable. There is subtle heat and warmth in the finish but itís very faint. Itís unbelievable that this beer is 12.7%. would have guessed under ten percent. Insanely drinkable at this strength. Overall, I was very impressed with this beer and thought that it was much more complex, flavorful and drinkable than the 09 Kate the Great which was also opened tonight. Highly recommended!

Black, with a brown head. First whiff is grape or some other fruity note, then coffee and red wine. Coffee and grape and red wine are the main players in the flavor, as well. I get some milk chocolate, too. Dryish, winey finish. Good stuf. Thanks to Photekut for bringing this one!

Solid black, creamy oily brown head. Aroma of molasses, dark fruit, sweet tobacco leaf, leather, vanilla. Taste is awesome, sweet milky smoothness, alcohol in the nose, bitter cocoa, ash, earthy. Thick chewy texture, smooth carbonation. Christ, this is a whale of a beer.

One of the biggest and most complex beers Iíve had, huge nose and flavor of chocolate , tobacco, leather, dark stone fruits, vinous fruit and oak. Lasting woody finish and smooth mouthfeel.

Bomber; 2010 vintage; pours oily black wig thin dark tan head fading quickly to the edges; heavy molasses, licorice, creamy roast and some sweet bourbon; wow, sticky sweet and oily mouthfeel; rich oats, candy malt, chocolate, red wine, charred oak and cookie dough ice cream; definitely on the boozy side and while has a rich mouthfeel, just a little lacking compared to the Haand Odinís Tipple; vinous notes with lots of chocolate and roasted malt; super smooth and thin, flat oily mouthfeel; still quite complex compared to most imperial stouts; rich and balanced flavor profile with nothing out of place; incredible that a beer with so much going on drinks so smooth; fun drinking this side by side with a 2-year old Expedition

Updated Rating 4/16/10 (4.3): Bomber; 2009 vintage; pours viscous black with thin, foamy dark brown head fading quickly to the edges; what a badass brew; resinous aromas of bitter chocolate, molasses, dark fruit, red wine, coffee, birch syrupy and vanilla; rich chocolaty flavors with dark fruits, caramel, touch of whiskey spice and coffee; a smooth, rich sipper with almost decadent dessert quality to it; any astringency or unpleasant bitterness is nowhere to be found; love the more subtle barrel notes in this one with the red wine working well against the whiskey; yummy mix of chocolate and red wine; much more complex than I remember from the 2008 vintage; just a lovely beer; wish I had picked more of the 2009; a touch of smoke here would cause the world to explode!

Original Rating 11/27/09 (4.0) Ė Bomber; 2008 vintage; jet black with thin brown head; tons of coffee and sweet chocolate; killer smooth, creamy texture with bone dry finish; sweet fruit, chocolate syrup and dank fruit; very solid across the board but not up to the standards they set with sloth; need to revisit with a fresh bottle of the 2009 batch
