4.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle, thanks to Savvy1982. Viscous black pour, utterly opaque, with a dark brown heavy looking thick pad that tops it off. Aroma has lots of cocoa, with elements of clay, coffee, beef broth, and a touch of sweet cream that isnít quite vanilla. Boldly flavoured, with bitter cocoa taking center stage, lots of hard roast character, espresso beans, dark fruit acids, and an undercurrent of subtle humidor character. Hearty, heavy, and dense. Very satisfying.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
22. Thanks, SuzyGreenberg! Holy crap, what a score you hauled in! Jet black with a burnt tan head. Tons of plum, prune, and dark pitted tree fruit on the nose, along with plenty of coffee and then a blast of creosotey, almost sweet smoke. Creamy medium body. Coffee, roast, fruit, and some light nutty bitterness on the mid-palate. Words absolutely fail to capture the pleasures offered by drinking this beer.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle shared at RBWG-JAX. Black pour with a nice tan head. Rich aroma shows char, charcoal, whiskey, berries, dark fruit, tobacco, wood, and oh so much more. The flavor shows a smooth but bitter kick, more of that char, wood, roasted malts, dark fruits, and more. Delish!

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle:   Pitch black, moderate to thin brown foamy head, sparce lacing.   Sweet graham cracker roasted malt nose.   Lots of sweet roast graham cracker on the tongue.   Rich and sweet, yet also a bittersweet hoppy chocolate infused malt base. Fairly simple, and certainly not as complex as I would have thought.   This is certainly not worth $13 for a bomber.   Good, but not THAT good.   This is worth half that.   A little miffed.   So far only the Midnight Sun M has been worth its weight on gold.   Good Imperial Stout, just not as special as they make it out to be.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle (650ml) shared with HogTownHarry, jerc, mabel, mds & tupalev -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Vintage 2005. Pours a very dark ruby-brown with an average size light-brown head. Aroma of sweet malt, caramel, brown sugar and alcohol -- surprisingly sweet. Flavour of lightly roasted malt, hops, a hint of chocolate, dark fruit and some alcohol -- a little sweet too, like tupalev below, it kind of reminds me of a stronger Baltic Porter. Nice medium to full body. Well done, very enjoyable.

4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
UPDATED: JAN 24, 2010 Re rate from Chitown RB gathering Jan 2010: bottle shared by Vince (beernbourbon), many thanks!
The flavors seemed a bit less assertive and the palate a bit less complex. Less earthy and espresso qualities. -1 Taste, -1 Palate, -1 Overall... but still a darn nice Impy
Bomber bottle from hannont, much thanks, served in my Stone IRS snifter. Opaque with a deep tan frothy head and good lace. The aroma has notes of oak and whiskey (but more like Irish Whiskey than American Bourbon), bittersweet chocolate, espresso, dark candi sugar, molasses, and a hint of port wine fruitiness. Lush sweet malt with hint of dark fruit and chocolate covered coffee beans start the flavor profile. There is some whiskey barrel character more towards the midsection towards the finish. The Coup de gr‚ce is the almost salty and peaty earthiness which caresses the tongue forcefully. The mouth feel is oily and lush but not heavy, a bit mineral and a tad boozy too. It is not often I would say that a brew with a 4.0 overall is underrated, but I believe this is. Sort of a hybrid BA Impy with itís hints of Irish Whiskey and Scotch Whisky notes around the Belgium candi sugar tones and chocolates with some finer Italian Espresso thrown about for good measure. This is NOT your "standard" Bourbon Barrel Imperial Stout... GET YA SOME, IT ROX!

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Dark fruit, figs, bourbon, cacao, red wine barrel notes on the nose. Black, creamy, and oily appearance. Dark brown head. Figs, dark fruit, chocolate, molasses, bourbon, and light red wine notes make up the flavor profile. Extremely complex and giant beer. Vanilla and brown sugar show up as well. Soft but sharp carbonation. Lingering dry roasted bitterness and a hint of barrel and alcohol in the finish. Solid.
