Draft at the brewery. Dark brown, maybe SRM 33 or so, with a small off-white head. Spice on the aroma, pepper and anise. The flavor has some sweet brown sugary malt with some tingly pepper and anise, maybe ginger. Nice but perhaps a but overspiced. Medium body with average carbonation. Meh, ok.

On tap @ Encinitas Ale House. Just about black in color with a khaki head. Slight smoke, some plum, raisin, and date on the nose. Fairly sweet and fruity beer. A bit of licorice and black cherry soda on the palate. Slightly metallic as well. A bit thin. Lots of sweet brown sugar, raisin, and dates. Mild smokiness and some roasted malt.

(Draught) clear deep ruby/brown, ring of fine offwhite bubbles. Nose of rich cherry syrup, light smoke, maple, tropical, interesting. Taste of smoke, cherry, unsweet cereal grain, pumpernickel bread, rye, spicy, perhaps the earthy flavor is the chicory. Well carbonated but tastes forced and probably is.

Ruby black color with tan sheen. Big black licorice aromas with light chocolate. medium body, average carbonation. Anise, dark chocolate, semi sweet cherry flavors--not bad

Nitro pour at the source... Enticing silky deep toffee slightly stouty hue and topped with an inviting light beige hue... Aroma of Belgian yeast, dark candied sugar and coinciding dark fruits. Black licorice again?!... Black licorice and candied sugar, dark fruits and spice. Anise is overwhelming although I’m sensitive to it. Creamy nitro body, Nice, with a lighter level of carbonation.

Had on draft at the brewery. Sugary sweet, cocoa, woody, hints of berry, a little spicy. Not really feeling this one.

Deep brown, clear, off white head. Malty aroma with dark fruit and a little anise. Flavor of bready and nutty malt, some toast, prunes, light anise, finishes malty. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
