tjthresh (1746), Greenfield, Indiana, USA May 1, 2006 Sampled at Dark Lord Day 06. I found this beer incredibly underwhelming. The aroma almost completely lacked hops. Very malty. Very watery thin with low head. Reds yellow and oranges for colors. The flavor was just a mish mash of whops an malt with no distinguishing character. Pretty disappointing. beeryum (652), Norcross, Georgia, USA Apr 12, 2006 Bottle, probably aged a bit. Dark mahagony brown pour, huge head. Smelled old and oxidized, with some cirtus hops, but not a lot. Caramel malty flavors, some hops, but not a lot, and a hard bitter bite to finish. Tart and acidic. I’ll want another bottle to rerate at some point. HopDevil1979 (117), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA Apr 6, 2006 smells of dates and candy and malt and hops. I list hops last because its not as extreme as I might have hoped. This pours very dark with a small, small head. Tastes like caramel and is almost as thick. I feel like I could chew this beer. Aftertaste is tremendous. Not very harsh and evaporates quickly off the palate, just as I like it. Bravo! harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA Mar 1, 2006 This was kind of a disappointment, I really had much higher hopes than what I tasted. Initial aroma is similar to pine-sol, lots of citrus, but also some burnt toasted maltiness. Flavors are subdued, overly malty with lots of stale fruit rinds, but the flavors just never really seem to come together and remain unbalanced throughout the entire session. madcow75 (425), Sun Prairie, Wisconsin, USA Feb 28, 2006 Bottle. Pours red and brown, with an initial fluffy off white head that diminishes to thin. Different looking from the IIPAs that I am used to. Good lacing all the way down. Aromas of pine, citrus, caramel, plastic. My first taste impression is of the citrus, grapefruit, oranges and some Christmas tree. There is somewhat of a metallic taste in there as well and some caramel at the end. This is sweet up front and bitter at the end. Slightly oily and carbonated. The alcohol chimes in, especially as it warms. StewardofGondor (1934), Washington Heights - Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Jan 30, 2006 Translucent and glowing orange in color with a booming, massive, frothy tan thing for the head. Aroma is a noodle scratcher, deciphering dandelions, corn starch, grapenuts, honey-meets-hay, and turning grapefruit skin scraps. Citric orange crème mediates the flavor, churning into orange flavored Nips. Some bitter qualities mingle with corrosive copper and rotten fruit. Touch of butternut squash. Oily residue sits on the tongue. Chewy, thickly malt conjecture with a balancing hop composure that is fairly dormant but still evident. Finishes like an orange-pineapple V8 Splash. Thanks for the bomber, Clark! goldtwins (4078), Nesconset, New York, USA Jan 16, 2006 Poured a very hazy darl amber/brown color with a large off-white head. Aroma of orange juice and toffee with light notes of paper. Flavor is acidic with a light tartness and caramel maltiness underneath. Bitterness runs from the middle to the long finish. robertsreality (2460), Minnesota, USA Dec 31, 2005 Autumn Brown Coloring with Light Tan Head. Dry Fruit..Bread Dough.. Dry Hop and Pepper Spice Ending. Pretty Light for a Double IPA. But Still a Tasty Brew in Either Case.
