Aroma is a noodle scratcher, deciphering dandelions, corn starch, grapenuts, honey-meets-hay, and turning grapefruit skin scraps. Citric orange crème mediates the flavor, churning into orange flavored Nips. Some bitter qualities mingle with corrosive copper and rotten fruit. Touch of butternut squash. Oily residue sits on the tongue. Chewy, thickly malt conjecture with a balancing hop composure that is fairly dormant but still evident. Finishes like an orange-pineapple V8 Splash. Thanks for the bomber, Clark! goldtwins (4079), Nesconset, New York, USA

Aroma of orange juice and toffee with light notes of paper. Flavor is acidic with a light tartness and caramel maltiness underneath. Bitterness runs from the middle to the long finish. robertsreality (2460), Minnesota, USA

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Dec 29, 2005 Red color with a towering head. Aroma of caramel and very earthy hops. The taste was substantially bitter, but no where near the ridiculous amounts that most IIPAs end up with. It seemed more like bitter malt than bitter hops. No floral quality at all. Almost syrupy. Damn nice. bobarito (2), Fairbanks, Alaska, USA does not count | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Dec 21, 2005 Bottled March 2005. Great aroma of hops. An off-white foam that fades quickly but leaves a nice layer, with great lace on the glass. Taste is very hoppy and well balanced. Slight alcohol flavor as the beer warms. Bronze in color with a thick beige head that settles fast leaving a hearty amount of lacing in its wake. The taste is bitter but smooth. 5000 (2409), Hardened Liver, Washington, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Nov 14, 2005 Bottle: Fiery amber, fairly clear, moderate off-white head, settles quickly, decent lacing, light carbonation.   Hop leaf aroma, very slight fern and tea leaf.   Slight mustiness, and seems as if it might be fairly sweet as well.   Semi-sweet hopped up start, moderate bitterness tho, decent malt base, citrusy backside.   Pleasant finish, lingering earthy hop bitterness.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Nothing extraordinary, lighter than most, but a solid example of the style.

Another one of my hometown favs. There’s enough malt balance to make this a great winter time DIPA. Gratefruit is the dominate hop flavor, which is OK by me. Mouthfeel is full with a lingering bitter finish. Great way to warm up on a cold Alaskan winters day.
