Crosling (1854), Loveland, Colorado, USA Oct 4, 2004 Tasty but this isn’t much of a Double IPA.
Chestnut.
Aroma of pine, pineapple, smoked wood and roasted malts, mainly caramel but also a hint of molasses.
Where are the hops in this? This is entirely too malty for a a DIPA. Flavor mainly consists of hops oils, pine needles, apricots, pineapples and lemon. The malt backbone is nice but if I want a nice malt backbone, I’ll snag an English barley wine. YourDarkLord (1800), Urbana, Illinois, USA Aug 4, 2004 Perhaps it’s a changing palate or a seasonal thing but I am really enjoying IPAs. This one poured a nice bronze with a beige head. The familiar grapefruit/hops aroma. Inviting and appealing. Creamy and full in the mouth. Flavor was crisp and clean and citrusy. Very refreshing. I’ve had better but this was quite good. sloth (1658), Ceciltucky, Co., Maryland, USA Jul 25, 2004 Large tan head, excellent retention and a thick, frothy coating lace, lasting. Hazy amber/orange hued brew. Spicey hop nose. Med/full body, over carbed. Woody, hop flavors, light malt notes, spicey, lightly citrusy with some peppery notes and a touch of crystal malt in there somewher. Finish is medium dry. This beer seems to be wandering around a bit, kinda lost. Interesting though. hopdog (5535), Lansdale, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 12, 2004 Poured a dark amber/orange in color with a huge, five finger, head. Nice hoppy, citris, piney, orange and grapefruit aroma. Nice tasting (like it smells) with a malty balance. Dry, smooth and bitter finish. Very good IPA. Costly with the postage I paid, but well worth it! obxdude10 (1547), Pottstown, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 12, 2004 Deep amber color, decent off-white head that laced around the glass nicely, slight citrus & pine notes, not quite up to snuff, a little disappointing, medium body, nice hoppy flavors, not at all a huge imperial pale ale, this would make for a decent regular IPA but not an imperial one
JCapriotti (1378), Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA Jun 21, 2004 Fairly dark amber/copper body with a small off-white soapy head. Light dusty citrus hop aroma, orange, pine, brown sugar. Taste has a minty orange presense with some spice and cherries as it warms up to room temp. Hop taste is smooth, sweet, and slightly resiny. To me, indicative of a dry hop or hop back thing. Its not a a big IIPA, but still good. Suttree (2701), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA Jun 20, 2004 Brown/copper, with a large, dense, rocky head. Fresh earthy hops aroma. Crisp hoppy flavor right up front. Grassy, woodsy hops ton a smoky, even a little chocolatey malt base. As it warms, hints of mint and citrus and even caramel emerge. Very nice. Thanks to Liquid Solutions for selling me this one. BückDich (4793), McCall, Idaho, USA Jun 17, 2004 Updated: Jun 18, 2004Ruby opaque brown color with nice thicky creamy off-white head and some light lacing. The aroma is sweet with a nice hopping level. Some definately chinook and other pnw specialties. Very earthy and piney, some citrus. The flavor is stronger with some alcohol notes and a bit of rough bitterness. Finishes creamy and smooth. Not quite as good as I was expecting, but still a decent I2PA.
