joet (1700), Fulton, California, USA Jun 8, 2004 Cery, hoppy clean and bright vivid flavors and aromas. Pine and PNW, Cascade? Chinook? A bit punchy very well rounded and very lightly creamy texture. Awesome! fly (1331), austin, Tejas, USA Jun 8, 2004 Updated: May 31, 2005Found it rather amusing that as much as I love hops so much, I was thrown off after having tasted a big round of big Belgians - what a shock to have something so familiar seem so foreign. very nice. Piney. floral, blab, blab, blab. I liked it.
Reeeeerate: Nice to try again and by itself, While I’m not sure that I would be worthy of enjoying this as an every day beer, I sure was more impressed the second time around. Were this any more lively I wouold have had to slap it. Head that died down after a while, but was HUGE. Woody, piney, cirusy, y. y, y. y. Muy bueno HumuloneRed (750), Portland, Oregon, USA Jun 7, 2004 Beatiful clear copper color. Gread head with nice lacing. Very bitter with earth notes. Silky texture with a dry finish. Terminus (1955), Las Cruces, New Mexico, USA Jun 2, 2004 22 oz bottle-sept. 2003-very dark amber appearance, especially for a IIPA. nice off white rocky head that lasted a long time. lots of yeast action here. aroma is balanced of citrus and piney hops with tones of vanilla and kool-aid. very subtle and smooth palate-very good balance of hops and malt somewhat reminds me of hop devil. Some apple cider tones in the mid-flavors. silky mouthfeal. I think this is a very under-rated IIPA. I loved it! Hab40oz (242), Grants Pass, Oregon, USA May 23, 2004 Great red color on this strong ale style IPA. Smooth richer taste less bitter hoppy taste than Sockeye, more sweet and malty. But don’t think its not hoppy or bitter, it is, just not a regular IPA. Good stuff, try it. You like it if you like northwest beers. Indra (2023), Prairie Village, Kansas, USA May 16, 2004 22oz bottle. Nicely piney, fruity hop aroma, some brown sugary sweetness to counter, but the hops obviously far more prominent, being fresh, leafy, green, faintly spicy and citric with notes of lemon and tangerine. Deep, murky red-orange color, the head creamy but subsiding with some light, spidery lacing. Flavor profile is malty, very lightly toasty and sugary to start, the middle fruity and citric with a resoundingly spicy, hoppy and bitter finish. Very well-balanced overall, some mild complexity to be found. Medium-full body, palate is slightly watery -- effervescence is low, giving an almost cask-conditioned feel. Bitterness is perhaps a bit more subdued than expected overall, but the balance is extraordinary, the hops having likely mellowed somewhat in the 6 months or so since it was bottled. Quite drinkable for its heft and a well done Imperial IPA. whaleman (2171), North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA May 13, 2004 Cherry-amber body with decent carbonation and noticeable viscosity. Frothy beige head with thick lacing. Nice aroma of cherries, spice, and grapefruit. Has some intriguing mustiness too. Flavor is more fruity than anticipated but improves well as it warms. Subtle, but nice hoppiness. belgianhomebrew (646), Acworth, Georgia, USA Apr 27, 2004 Big hop nose when poured. SLightly sweet malt body to balance the huge bitterness in this brew. The alcohol is balanced quite well. Finishes slightly sweet. A decent IPA.
