Commercial Description:
When the loveable "hopheads" at Humpy's Great Alaskan Alehouse requested a winter version of alehouse favorite Sockeye Red IPA, our brewers instinctively spawned CoHoHo Imperial IPA. CoHoHo begins with generous measures of pale two-row and specialty malts along with spirit-boosters like maple syrup, brown sugar and honey. Hefty doses of Cascade, Centennial and Simcoe hops beautifully balance that outrageous malt bill and heighten the festive character of this exuberant beer. Whatever the celebration, make merry with CoHoHo Imperial IPA.

Beatiful clear copper color. Gread head with nice lacing. Very bitter with earth notes. Silky texture with a dry finish.

Bottle: Fiery amber, fairly clear, moderate off-white head, settles quickly, decent lacing, light carbonation.   Hop leaf aroma, very slight fern and tea leaf.   Slight mustiness, and seems as if it might be fairly sweet as well.   Semi-sweet hopped up start, moderate bitterness tho, decent malt base, citrusy backside.   Pleasant finish, lingering earthy hop bitterness.   Body and mouthfeel are moderate to full.   Nothing extraordinary, lighter than most, but a solid example of the style.

Bottle. Pours red and brown, with an initial fluffy off white head that diminishes to thin. Different looking from the IIPAs that I am used to. Good lacing all the way down. Aromas of pine, citrus, caramel, plastic. My first taste impression is of the citrus, grapefruit, oranges and some Christmas tree. There is somewhat of a metallic taste in there as well and some caramel at the end. This is sweet up front and bitter at the end. Slightly oily and carbonated. The alcohol chimes in, especially as it warms.

Bottle Pours a clear deep chestnut color. rather darker than I expected. Very big, thick creamy off-white head with lots of blocky persistant lacing. Aroma is malty and woody. Hops are definately there but not very bright or citrusy. Flavor is big and lots of rich deep malt flavor. A bit ddissapointed on the hoppiness. Or lack of. Some bitterness is there but cant quite counter the malt profile. Likely I have a several month old bottle that has faded a bit in this area. ABV is noticeable but appropriate for the big flavor and the big rich heavy palatte. Feels great going down. Creamy and soft with just the right modest carbonation. Nice big beer.

Bottle from Liquid Solutions. Pours a dark filtered amber with a fizzy head. Nose is awesome C-hops and Simcoe. A touch catty, but super resiny with a touch of citrus. Taste is pretty robust, a little caramel malt at first and some roastiness and a superclean bitterness. This is a pretty tasty beer, definitely impresssed. Nice change for a double Red. Good.

Really good solid IPA. Dark orange. Malty backbone but big biting hop flavor. Easy drinker to boot. Would happily order again. Another great brew from Midnight Sun.

Tasty but this isn’t much of a Double IPA. Chestnut. Aroma of pine, pineapple, smoked wood and roasted malts, mainly caramel but also a hint of molasses. Where are the hops in this? This is entirely too malty for a a DIPA. Flavor mainly consists of hops oils, pine needles, apricots, pineapples and lemon. The malt backbone is nice but if I want a nice malt backbone, I’ll snag an English barley wine.

Dark amber/brown with a small, frothy, tan head. Aroma of pungent, venomous hop resin, cannabis, pine, and grapefruit rind. Flavor adds a strong toasty caramel malt base and a subtle, but sharp, herbal/vegetal aftertaste. Medium/full body, smooth. Excellent.
