Braudog (3463), Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates Oct 8, 2002 Updated: May 22, 2007 Ho-hoppy aroma. Spicy front end to the taste that quickly settles into a nicely hopped pale ale flavor. Superb ... one of my favorite beers. Not sure that it can hang with the real big imperial IPAs, but this is damn good and drinkable
BrotherGrendel (186), San Diego (La Jolla), California, USA Aug 23, 2008 Bottle purchased from bottletrek.com, contents poured into a Stone OG tulip glass.
Appearance is a clear amber/dark brown hue, thick craggy foam mostly sustains, latticework lacing on the glass.
Smell is moderate hops, ranging from pine, floral, citrus, grass, and dirt/earth, some sweet caramel malts in the background.
Taste is also full of hops, pine and floral tones mostly dominate here, hints of sour grapefruit, sweet caramel malts, honey, and cotton candy arrive midway, finishes dry and bitter.
Mouthfeel is medium-bodied, thick texture with resin that coats the mouth, lively and adequate carbonation.
Drinkability is high given the style and abv, the alcohol is well-masked, the aromas are unique and give off a xmas tree essence, and the dry hops are a fun ride. Glouglouburp (2006), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Aug 15, 2008 In short: A highly drinkable refreshing IPA with focus on juicy fruits flavours. Excellent.
How: Bottle 22oz. Sample at Cathschlag birthday party tasting.
The look: Clear copper-ruby body topped by a small beige head
In long: Nose of pine-needles and tropical fruits. Body if soft and velvety for the style, a little yeasty, moderately sweet, a whole lot of juicy tropical fruits, some pine-cone juice. The juicy fruity flavours are so dominant that they totally overwhelmed the malt caramel. Round and smooth with a juicy bitterness. This is drinkability over intensity. Wow, that’s a kick-ass IPA, with Midnight Sun Alaska could become the new California, and with the climate changes who knows…
AmEricanbrew (1009), Swamp Shreveport, Left Coast, Louisiana, USA Aug 6, 2008 Beautiful garnet color with a frothy khaki head, nice lacing. Medium strong pine sap, citrusy hop aroma. Creamy smooth mouthfeel. Great flavors of sweet caramel and brown sugar blending perfectly with bitter grapefruit and pine hop flavors that sting your tongue. Reminds me of Nugget Nectar, heavy on the sweet stuff with a strong hop profile. Great beer. MatSciGuy (261), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Jun 16, 2008 [Bottle] shared by Skyview. Burnt caramel pour with a moderate tan head. Aroma is pine resin, citric hops, and a pretty good malt backbone. Flavor matches aroma. One of the better balanced DIPA’s I’ve had. Skyview (2905), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA May 30, 2008 Received a 22-oz bomber from Liquidsolutions.biz and shared with the Minnesota gang at the Heritage Liquors Inauguration beer tasting in Maplewood, Minnesota. Pours a semi-clear copper amber brew with a thin off-white head that quickly dissipates toa fine film and no ring. Aroma of sweet and fruity caramel malt, grapefruit, citrus zest, a touch of lime, and some tropical fruit. Taste is mildly bitter, medium bodied, some carbonation with flavors of light caramel malt with some tropical fruit, grapefruit and a touch of pine. Finish is typical double IPA bitterness that lingers a little after the finish.
