COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our 13th Anniversary ale is a blend of new (70%) and old (30%) beers. The new is brown ale with sour cherries, fermented with a Belgian yeast strain. The old is seven-year-old beer to which berries, lactobacillus, pediococcus, and brettanomyces were added along the way. This sour beer aged in American oak Cabernet Sauvignon barrels for four years before being transferred to stainless kegs, where it continued to do its magic for the last three years. In May the sour funk was blended with the fresh brown ale, then bottle- and kegconditioned with yet another Belgian yeast.

Bottle from MaltOMeal shared at May tasting. Pours a dark ruby with a small off white head that diminishes quickly to nothing. The aroma is tart and cherry. Thin mouthfeel with the wine upfront and nice dry finish. Very good, really enjoyed this one.

Handbottle, thanks TomDecapolis, RBSG bus. Lightly hazed dark amber body, minimal off-white head. Aroma is moderately sweet, grapefruit, some orange, cherry. Taste is moderately sweet, Brett/cherry, some orange. Medium body, light stickiness.

Hand bottle on rbsg bus. TICK! Tepid nut appearance. Bit of oxidized, vinous chocolate, brett, light oat, heavy cherry, thin and lightly sour but more liquor quality than well-carbonated sour. Closer to KRE than a wild ale, I’ll wait to try it on draft.

Bottle from MaltOMeal. Thanks!
Pours a thick amber with a nose of sweet raisin-oak, plumb sugar, and cherry-raisin biscuit. Flavor is medicinal cherry and light cedar. Thick on the tongue. A wonderful brew from the Last Frontier.

Handbottle at RBSG 2011. The pour is a hazy brown. Pretty muddy and flat. Nose is buttery caramel, chocolate, citrus, tart cherry, chocolate orange, meaty richness and soft impending acetic like in the best oud bruins. Pretty amazing nose. Taste is cinnamon ganache, milk chocolate, spicy apple butter, spicy acetic with heavy stout flavors. Similar to Struise Earthmonk. Soft, rich, tangy, like melted chocolate cake with sour cherries and caramel layered on top. Yummy yum yum. Must have more.

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a huge off-white head. Cherry and almondish aroma. Fruity, almondish and slight citric. Smooth fruity into a lingering finish.

On the RBSG bus trip. Pours cloudy brown with a beige head. Funky aroma with tart cherries and a hint of chocolate. The flavor has tart cherry, bretty funk, and chocolate. Nice.

Hand bottle thanks to maltomeal at the Houston May 2011 tasting. Purple (!!) color, clear with no head. Nose of prunes and sweetness-very aromatic. Lots of body and huge tart, dry, and winey flavors. Sad thing is that it dies quickly and suddenly on the end and has a very thin body. High marks early then goes downhill.

hand-bottle thanks to brewboone. Pours a dark brown with off-white bubbles. Nose is perfumy, fruit syrup. Taste is like sweet, concentrated fruit puree’. Thought this was supposed to be a sour/wild ale, but it doesn’t come off like that to me. Mouthfeel is medium-thin.
