Dickinsonbeer (3434), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA Aug 8, 2006 Last HWOH. Pours a deep brown with a thin lasting dark beige head and some lace. Aroma is light plastic phenols, ligth chocolate malts and nutty hints. Slight roasty flavor with more chocolate, nuts, toffee, and nice light hoppiness. Pretty solid brown ale. BückDich (4785), McCall, Idaho, USA May 21, 2006 Bottle: Pours a brown ebony color with thick tan head, lots of lacing. Nose is malty with some caramel and light toasted nuts. The flavor has a moderate body with a good balanced flavor, a bit of roast and a nutty aspect. This is similar to Rogues Hazelnut brown but has a bit more body and well rounded maltiness to it. The finish is smooth and sweet. Good brown ale. ross (1709), weddington, South Carolina, USA Mar 16, 2006 2004 - 22 oz bottle - This is a style of beer that I enjoy, but they are a little harder to find at times. This one is pretty malty, but it has a decent hop kick. Not bad, worth buying again, probably not - but its worth a try for sure. There are much better brown ales out there. Reid (1085), Salem, Oregon, USA Mar 1, 2006 Lovelly looking ale, a nice dark brown with a fantastiuc thick and frothy tan head.
Good malty /nutty aromas, faint scent of chocoalte and some whiffs of hop.
Smooth and malty flavours dominate but after a while hazelnut and a slight fruitiness appear and a small hop "kick" at the end.
Very nice indeed on the palate, very smooth and satisfying.
A good rendition of this style and very drinkable. A recommended brown ale. harlequinn (2745), Tacoma, Washington, USA Jan 17, 2006 Updated: May 26, 2006Great roasted chocolate aroma, that is the first things I notice, along with a rich deepo syrupy pour. this is a big brown ale, with lots of sweet chocolate flavors and some nice peanut butter nuttiness. Very good and easy to drink on a cold, rainy Oregon night BrewDad (2363), Olympia, Washington, USA Dec 25, 2005 Nice beep rich brown in color. The aroma gives off a light nutty small along with a good feel for the malts in the beer. There is a light hops flavor to this beer along with some dark crystal malts. This was a good beer easy drinking and good sitting around the fire in the log beer. SwedeDog (364), Windsor, Connecticut, USA Nov 16, 2005 Bomber. Very weak aroma. Pretty much smells like the rest of the room ... nothing much. I guess if you strain, you can sense a slight nuttiness. Nice dark brown and lightly carbonated body with an off-white head and a nice lace. Somewhat watery but sweet mouthfeel. Considering the aroma is so weak, the flavors abound. Sweet malts, nuts, caramel help balance out the roasted coffee. The hops, although present, prefer to cower in the corner. The sweetness to start, followed by the roasted finish make for a nice balance. A very easy to drink beer. Thanks to my family for returning from Alaska with this one! beermatrix (1497), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA Nov 1, 2005 22oz - Clear dark ruby tinted brown with a massive cap of sandy brown frothyness. Patchy thick rings of sheeting lace.
Aroma is roasted, nutty, coffee, caramel, and cocoa with nice touches of clean maple syrup and brown sugar.
Taste is of toasted caramel and breads with inlays of peanuts and very light coffeeish hints. A bit of sweetness interludes the front and middle with a bit of red apple and malt laden starchyness. Light dry finish is kept well with very interesting little nuances of brown sugar, maple, and airy toasted stuff. Nice subtle play between the sweeter caramel and airy toastyness.
Feel is about medium with a solid carbonation for a brown. Nice airy frothyness and malty creamyness to it. Finish is great. Airy, dry, complexingly subtle, and fun to behold.
A pretty solid brown. One of the better ones Ive had.
