Macanudo (14), USA Apr 3, 2005 Tastes like a Nut Brown Ale. Very similar to me like Newcastle. Nice, solid cocoa taste with light coffee. Eirikur (298), Alftanes, Iceland Feb 19, 2005 Nutty, a little smokey, with alot of coffee aroma and taste . ClarkVV (3578), Allston, Massachusetts, USA Feb 16, 2005 September 2003 bottle. Fizzy, bubbly, heavily carbonated pour, but it’s natural carbonation and departs pretty quickly from the beer. Dark brown, hazy, with sediment at the bottom. Some magenta highlights on the edges and mountains of off-white/beige head. Aroma showcases English yeast and light coffee. Dark fruits, not altogether like fruit flavored coffee (raspberry predominantly). There is some earthy, dusty appeal from the yeast as well. Flavor begins strangely sweet, but has a dry, bitter edge to it, like black coffee broken up by lots of sugar. Some earthiness and dustiness from the malt and/or yeast. It almost tastes like there is some malt in here that is used in Belgian brown ales, but maybe I’m just getting confused. Ends watery, but not overly so, with an otherwise medium, rather uninspiring body, with light signs of oxidation. Texture is peppery at first, from the carbonation, but then turns much smoother after breathing. Finishes with some light coffee and chocolate and a bit of sticky caramel and dough. matta (1137), Tampa, Florida, USA Feb 9, 2005 Thanks very much to Kinz for sending me a sweet trade almost a year back.
I truly wasn’t very impressed with this beer. Brown ale… Brown body, fluffy tan head. The aroma was lightly malty, notes of caramel and toasted malts. Hints of breakfast cereal, maybe some coco…. It was just a boring beer, IMO. Not terrible… Not even close to being memorable… it’s just there. Rockinout (945), Kent, Ohio, USA Jan 10, 2005 Mahagony colored, earthy malty nose with a subtle hint of coffee. Smooth earthy malt taste with some sweetness. jgb9348 (2492), Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA Dec 17, 2004 Deep dark brown in colour with a tan head that lasts for a long while. Aroma of bubble gum, caramel and some raisins-no nuts at all. Medium-bodied; Raisiny taste with nuts strong in the finish all with a nice spiceyness. Aftertaste shows lingering sugars with some slight pit fruit tastes. Overall, a decent brown, but that isn’t saying much. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased at Whole Foods in Vienna, Virginia on 24-November-2004 on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. DYCSoccer17 (2187), Davis, California, USA Oct 28, 2004 Kind of a rubbery/metallic aroma with a few hints of brown sugar malt notes. Transparent garnet/mahogany color with a small fizzy quickly dissipating light tan head. Too carbonated for me. Has some sweet maltiness with hints of chocolate, but that rubbery taste persists. A tad thin-bodied. I’m not too much of a fan of this one. c2linguist (3), Washington, Washington DC, USA does not count Oct 28, 2004 While not the best brown ale I’ve ever had, I do have to say that I loved the overall experience. I loved how the light orang/brown color and slightlly aggressice nature of the aroma mimicked the label. Full Caramel aroma gave hints of chocolate and nuts. However, it was a bit watery in the mouth.
