Commercial Description:
Rugged yet smooth, Kodiak Brown Ale sports abundant yet graceful portions of pale and specialty malts, balancing caramel sweetness with a roasted malt character. Perle and Willamette hops accent without overpowering this brown ale's intrepid maltiness. The result is a bit bold but beautifully balanced. That Kodiak Brown Ale is our most popular beer says something about the adventuous spirit found in Alaska. But we are not surprised; we know Alaskans are not afraid of the dark.

Another bottle I ordered from Vintage I wanted from the state of Alaska. Kodiak Brown is very good. Good malt and well balanced hops. I am really intriqued and very interested in acquiring as much Midnight Sun as I can get my hands on. Great Beer!!! Just wish it didn’t take so much time to bring this hidden gem home. I’ve decided I’m going to need to live in about 20 states during the rest of my life so I can take advantage of all the great breweries. Somedays you just feel like you’re missing out on something. Until you’ve had it you’ll never know.

Not a lot going on here for me. Maybe I just don’t appreciate the subtleties of browns, but I could have used more maltiness and body.

Amber with a thin quickly discipating tan frothy head. Slippery lacing left on glass. Nose is malty with just a tad of caramel and hops. The taste is lots of caramel and cream but in a very dilute kind of way. Maybe brewed with lager yeast=lager funk? Kind of bland and wattery.

This beer came in my beer club. I am not familiar with the brewer. Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer pours a nice mahogany color with a trace of a tan head. There is a nice sour nut scent. The flavor is bitter and mildly nutty. The bitterness fades to a sourness on the aftertaste. There is very little sweetness to this beer. The flavor is very disappointing given the color and scent.

Medium brown in color with a small off white head. Sweet smell, nutty, and brown sugar. Malty flavor with a sourish after taste. Smells better than it tastes. Fizzy body. I could not finish the whole bottle.

Medium brown, OK head. Fudgy aroma. Flavor is also a bit fudgy, reminiscent of cheap hot fudge on a sundae at Baskin Robins. As it warms, something kind of ashy works its way into the flavor, and isn’t a welcome addition. Sort of sweet too. Not my favorite.

not too impressive. poured a nice brown color with no head. It had a sweet candy like aroma. taste was malty there were not much in the way of hops, with hints of chocolate. a light carbonation feel to it.

Slightly hazy reddish amber with a thick diminishing frothy off white head. Surprisingly fruity aroma of pear, red apple, caramel, and bread. Light medium watery body with lively carbonation. Light nutty, fruity flavor of red apple, hazelnut and bread with a hint of pepper. Good. Another thanks to Slikwily for this one.
