| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 4/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Apr 23, 2004 This brown ale pours with a deep reddish-brown body topped by a medium thick, tan head with some lacing. The aromais wierd. It's sweet and slightly malty with slight nutty notes, but I'm getting hints of peppermint(?). The flavor is very similar. I just don't like this brown allthat much. Medium bodied and tingly from the carbonation. TheBeerGod (3147), Newport News, Virginia, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 8, 2004 Pours dark brown mixed with ruby. Medium brown head. Aroma is malted brown sugar, and some caramel. The taste is sweeter than expected. More caramel, and brown sugar, some roasted malt and nuttiness. Very slick mouthfeel. An easy drink here. Finish has some sweetness to it but there's a very light hop character. Good beer! iwantalambic (1385), St. Louis, Missouri, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Apr 6, 2004 22 oz bottle [2002 bottle, early 2004]: Muddy red brown with what I would now call a characteristically large, tightly bubbled dense cream. Great nutty aroma with slightly roasted bark qualities. Smooth creamy palate with the outrageous carbonation I now expect from Midnight Sun . . . wonderful toasted butter flavours and chewy, roasted walnuts and raisins. A solid, highly enjoyable beer. Toffee, caramel, molassess sweetness with a burnt grain, almost coffee grounds bitterness. Very easy drinking and tastey brown. BBB63 (4228), La Porte, Indiana, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 9/10 | 5/5 | 15/20 | Feb 27, 2004 Medium brown hue with a small off-white head and good lace. The aroma hints of molasses, caramel, toffee , mild coffee tones, butterscotch, floral hops, and earthy yeast esters. The taste starts silky sweet and very malty, rich for the style. Additional tones of cashews, grassy hops, and coffee linger throughout. The finish is buttery and hints of bitterness. This medium-bodied brew has a soft and almost creamy mouthfeel, a touch sticky. A far cry from your run of the mill brown ale. This offering from Midnight Sun has some above average characteristics and is recommended. One of the best browns I've had.
