chicagodri (1021), Chicago, Illinois, USA May 9, 2009 22 oz bottle. Pours brown with a thin tan head. Metallic aroma with a little bit of roasted malt. The flavor seemed a touch off in mine, just a little metallic. Some nutty flavor and roasted malt. Thin in flavor though. mabel (2530), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Apr 14, 2009 [1944-20090116] 22floz bottle. Metallic woody malt aroma with battery or lead pencil notes and smoked leaves. Clear, dark dark red body with a medium-lasting creamy light tan. Dry wood malt and heavy yeast flavour with a long woody aftertaste. Medium-full body. Great starter.
(w/ blankboy, garthicus, GregClow, jerc) Snojerk321 (1917), San Diego, California, USA Mar 21, 2009 22oz bottle from Liquid solutions. Probably one of the "lamer" brews I’ve had from Midnight Sun. Pours a lightly hazed medium brown with a good sized beige head. Nose was quite nutty with toasted malt and light hops. Flavor was much of the same. lakersfan16 (53), Anchorage, Alaska, USA Feb 4, 2009 60 oz. growler shared on Super Bowl sunday.
Pours a dark brown with a slightly tan head. Slightly roasted body, with a nice touch of nutty flavor as well. Very pleasant. garthicus (1216), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Feb 1, 2009 Shared with Blankboy, GregClow, jerc & mabel -- courtesy of J&M. Appearance: Rye red with lots of visible carbonation. Aroma: Battery, rye, soap, malt. Flavour: Malty, Bran, slight bitter short finish. blankboy (3165), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 29, 2009 Bottle (22oz) shared with garthicus, GregClow, jerc & mabel -- courtesy of j&m. Pours a very deep ruby-brown with an average size frothy off-white head. Aroma is lightly roasty along with the "metal" I usually get from ’Browns’, some caramel and chocolate, and finally nuts. The "metal" or light sourness goes away after a while. Flavour’s a bit watery but still good, it’s dry, lightly roasty and with a nutty finish. Average bodied. This is not a favourite style but this is a pretty good version. jerc (3861), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 23, 2009 2009-01-16. Very nice dark brown body, modest head. Very nice highlights when held up to the light. (3+) Mild roasty malt, brown ale character in the aroma. Flavour is similar, dry roast malt, light metallic notes to a brown ale character - I have trouble describing this range of flavours that are typical of brown ales generally. Mineral notes in the finish. Light sweet cocoa notes come and go. (7+) Average palate. Decent example of a style I am not overly enamored with. Bottle from Brown Jug, Anchorage Rciesla (3510), Exit 15W, New Jersey, USA Dec 26, 2008 Bottle. Pours a brown body with a lighter head. Lightly roasted caramel body a bit nutty, sweet with a thin mouthfeel. decent.
