gator2683 (133), Anchorage, Alaska, USA Mar 23, 2008 impressively dark, but the flavor falls flat. smells nutty, tastes malty, not much to say ChainGangGuy (2523), Kennesaw, Georgia, USA Feb 22, 2008 Appearance: Pours a dark chestnut brown body with a small, light beige head.
Smell: Malty aroma predominately of toasted nuts, but with lesser notes of caramel and chocolate.
Taste: Brown maltiness brings out a flavor of earthy, toasted nuts with a subtle caramel sweetness. Splash of chocolate water. Slight hint of fruit. Again, there’s not much hopwise going on beyond a little light bitterness. Quick finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium carbonation.
Drinkability: A pleasant, mild, and quite drinkable brown ale. SuzyGreenberg (1318), Seattle, Washington, USA Jan 27, 2008 22 oz. bottle - pours clear reddish brown with no head; aromas come off stale with a mix of malts and brown sugar; light bodied with very mild flavors; not too much going on with this brown Beerlando (2284), Orlando, Florida, USA Jan 20, 2008 Pours a very dark cola brown to mahogany body. A large, creamy crown of tan foam sits atop this brew, leaving behind sheet like lacing. The aroma is sweet and malty, with roasted caramel showing strong over highlights of hazelnut and brown sugar. Mild floral hops are there in the background, but serve as more of an afterthought. The flavor is essentially a mirror of the nose, with caramel and toasty nut flavors comprising the bulk of the taste profile. Finishes short and sweet, transitioning to toasty at the very end. The body was a little shy of medium, which was a bit of a disappointment. I was hoping for something more substantial. Overall, not bad, but lacking in depth or originality. marcus (1826), Sacramento, California, USA Jan 14, 2008 This dark brown ale poured with a fluffy tan head and a malty aroma. There is a pleasant caramel malt flavor with a slightly bitter finish. Not quite full-flavored, nevertheless a pleasant and tasty drink. after4ever (2711), Brier, Washington, USA Dec 7, 2007 22. Another solid little brown that makes me dismiss the style slightly less instantly. Pours nearly black with a decent cap of tan mousse that soon fades to leave a nearly headless, laceless, carbless beer. It really does look ok for the first round though. Big sweet caramel and brown bread nose (whadda shock). Little bit of shoe leather in there as well. Medium body, active carb, but not domineering at all. Brown bread, caramel, tobacco and leather on the mid-palate, with a nice earthy, leafy finish. Fair amount of flavor differentiation going on here for a brown. Nice enough for sure. jrob21 (1252), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Dec 5, 2007 Bottle at Matt’s. Poured a clear brown color. Big nutty aroma is really nice and different. Crystallized sugar/rock candy sort of aroma that comes through into the flavor as well. Caramel malt flavors in there. Sweetness up front and a hoppy bitterness as it finishes. Capa (955), Yokosuka, Japan Nov 26, 2007 Caramel color with a small, tan head. Aroma of sweet carmalized malts, chocolate, burnt, biscuit, and some wood. Body is a little watery. Slightly roasted malts, sweet caramel, chocolate, and a little oak. Finish is malty, bitter, and kinda short. A decent brown, but nothing too exciting here.
