Commercial Description:
Rugged yet smooth, Kodiak Brown Ale sports abundant yet graceful portions of pale and specialty malts, balancing caramel sweetness with a roasted malt character. Perle and Willamette hops accent without overpowering this brown ale's intrepid maltiness. The result is a bit bold but beautifully balanced. That Kodiak Brown Ale is our most popular beer says something about the adventuous spirit found in Alaska. But we are not surprised; we know Alaskans are not afraid of the dark.

A pretty decent and well made brown ale overall. Has a rich kind of moist feeling in the mouth, like biting into a fresh piece of chocolate cake, lots of rich caramel, and a sloid well balanced structure. A great session ale.

Thanks to Skyview! Dark brown color with a thin head. Aroma is slightly reminicent of Lysol. Nutty flavor and lots of dry malt. There is a kind of ’freshness’ on the finish... Kind of like the cool burning of wintergreen, but not the wintergreen flavor.

Appearance: Pours a dark chestnut brown body with a small, light beige head. Smell: Malty aroma predominately of toasted nuts, but with lesser notes of caramel and chocolate. Taste: Brown maltiness brings out a flavor of earthy, toasted nuts with a subtle caramel sweetness. Splash of chocolate water. Slight hint of fruit. Again, there’s not much hopwise going on beyond a little light bitterness. Quick finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-thin body. Medium carbonation. Drinkability: A pleasant, mild, and quite drinkable brown ale.

22 oz. bottle - pours clear reddish brown with no head; aromas come off stale with a mix of malts and brown sugar; light bodied with very mild flavors; not too much going on with this brown

Pours a very dark cola brown to mahogany body. A large, creamy crown of tan foam sits atop this brew, leaving behind sheet like lacing. The aroma is sweet and malty, with roasted caramel showing strong over highlights of hazelnut and brown sugar. Mild floral hops are there in the background, but serve as more of an afterthought. The flavor is essentially a mirror of the nose, with caramel and toasty nut flavors comprising the bulk of the taste profile. Finishes short and sweet, transitioning to toasty at the very end. The body was a little shy of medium, which was a bit of a disappointment. I was hoping for something more substantial. Overall, not bad, but lacking in depth or originality.

This dark brown ale poured with a fluffy tan head and a malty aroma. There is a pleasant caramel malt flavor with a slightly bitter finish. Not quite full-flavored, nevertheless a pleasant and tasty drink.

22. Another solid little brown that makes me dismiss the style slightly less instantly. Pours nearly black with a decent cap of tan mousse that soon fades to leave a nearly headless, laceless, carbless beer. It really does look ok for the first round though. Big sweet caramel and brown bread nose (whadda shock). Little bit of shoe leather in there as well. Medium body, active carb, but not domineering at all. Brown bread, caramel, tobacco and leather on the mid-palate, with a nice earthy, leafy finish. Fair amount of flavor differentiation going on here for a brown. Nice enough for sure.
